We were blessed with good riding weather for our weekend club camp out.The ride to Little River took Martin, John and myself to Selma where Don joined us at the Chevron. From there we took a riding tour of the wonderful turn of the 20th century buildings there. Continuing on we stopped by Old Cahawba the site of our first State Capitol and where the scenic Cahaba River flows into the Alabama. After a quick tour of the area, off we went to Gees Bend and a great ferry ride across the Alabama to Camden for lunch at Dallas Soulfood, formally Uncle Redd's. Outlaw and Angi along with his brother Daryl and his wife met there lunch and then our ride across the Alabama on the little 1930s ventage Davis Ferry, and then to the courthouses in Monroeville arriving at Little River Forest shortly after 4 pm.
A brisk but sunny Saturday morning found David,Gary, John, Don and I headed south to check off more ABEES POIs. Our first stop was to visit William Weatherford's (Red Eagle) grave, then to Fort Mimms, Red Hill Spring, and the Elliott Stone. Timing was good, because Vance joined us to visit the Malbis Greek Orthodox Church and Manci's Antique Club Restaurant and the Historic Blakeley Park before returning to Little River for a great catfish and fixins dinner.
Here are some of my photos and also Don Drasheff's.
