  • Antique car wanted for wedding

Our oldest daughter is getting married in July and she asked me if I could find someone with an antique car to carry her and the groom away from the wedding to a hotel nearby. It will be held at Mathews Manor in Springville. They would depart the reception at 9:30pm and would only travel a couple miles.

A vehicle from the 1930s-1940s would be preferred.

Does anyone have a vehicle or know of a friend that is willing to do this? We will pay for the services of course.

    Thanks,

    Steve

      Hi Steve,
Congrats to your daughter! I was going to say something really derogatory about old cars, Alabama, and the fact that you shouldn't have a problem finding one in running condition, but I'll just wish her the best of everything life has to offer. Also, I hope you like the guy she's engaged to. That helicopter you fly gives a whole new meaning to a shotgun wedding! Gail

Thanks Gail. Jeff is a wonderful guy and is a dentist, so he may be taking care of us one day! They just found eachother after not having any luck with other relationships. I guess that is how it is supposed to be. It is nice to see it happen.

        Take care,

        Steve

            Steve,

I asked my mother-in-law, and she said that Matthews Manor has some connections for cars and horse-drawn carriages, but they are probably high.

Another possibility is a man that goes to their church. His name is Tim Smith, he lives in Meadowbrook (just Southeast of Birmingham). He has a 193? Chevy that is beautifully restored. Not sure if he normally does this kind of stuff or not, but it's worth asking. His email address is tsmith8136@charter.net. Tim will know who Bonnie Sanders (my wife) is, so you can mention her name to identify the connection.

Another possibility is a man named Doug Blank in Birmingham. He's an old family friend and used to own the Donnelly House, which was a similar facility to Matthews Manor. He had an old Rolls Royce that he used for events at his place. I don't think it was quite as old as you're looking for, but it's a Rolls. The Donnelly House went out of business, but he may still have the car. I don't have any contact information for him, but Google probably does. He would recognize my name if you find him.

Barrett Jackson is over now, but there were several sold this week.

That's all I've got right now. Good luck!

Thanks Steve. We went to the wedding show last weekend in Birmingham and saw several of the vendors there with their vehicles. The prices were a bit steep and we only need them for 20 minutes or so to take the bride and groom away from Mathews Manor. I will check with Tim Smith and see if he is interested.

                Steve,

I sent an e-mail to Tim Smith and have not gotten a reply. It is still early though.

                Darlene,

You mentioned another source as well. Any luck with that?

The ride away from the event will be from Mathew's Manor, to Trussville (Marriott) at the most. We may even just have them use the vehicle for pictures only at Mathew's Manor. It is up to the kids.

Thanks everyone for helping us with this.

                  Steve,

Tim's mother recently passed away, so he's probably a bit distracted.

I did mention it to them, but this daughter is a bit more conventional. Now Krista would be a different story!!! She would be operating the bike with her fella in the rig
