I thought this web site was owned by the club membership as a forum for discussion concerning club business. As long as that discussion remains somewhat decent, opinions should not be stifled by stopping discussion on certain subjects. This brings into question the motives of the ones that do!

When I first read this post I was unsure what you were talking about. NOW I KNOW!! It seems as if someone didn't like the free flow of opinions and closed the thread. This somehow doesn't seem right. If the membership had resorted to name calling or similar, I could see closing the thread. But all I read were folks stating their feelings regarding the proposed amendments. It looks to me like an open, respectful airing of opinion is a good thing, especially given the definition of the word 'forum'. To me, this is more disturbing than whether the amendments pass or not, even though I support both amendments as presented.

We have seen more views and replies since Don and Barb Great Adventure for that thread and more folks have posted for the very first time. I think that is good.

I feel that the thread was useful to aire views and discussions before the meeting to help the flow of the business meeting.

My concern from the very first post, was the effect the amendment would have on the present and future membership of the club. I have my opinions, while I respect and reflect on others feelings as well.

Since I was the starter of the thread, I am dissappointed that it was closed for further replies a week before the meeting.

Also, since I am a moderator for this forum, I did not take the action to close the thread, but I feel I should have been contacted first to get my feeling on closing a thread I started, since it did not violate any forum rules.

I closed the thread. As I mentioned in my last post on the thread, I was very pleased with how both points of view had been aired in a civil manner. I think it was a very good thing.

The pro's and con's of the question are there for anyone trying to make a decision.

I felt that we'd beaten this horse to death. My action wasn't intended to create more controversy or offend anyone. If it did I apologize.

If there's more to discuss on the issue we can start "proposed amendment thread 2"

Let's talk about something fun we can look forward to this Sunday.

The ABEES awards presentation will be first on the agenda, and Connie has done her magic again this year with our wonderful award plaques.

We will award three special prizes to the three hardy Alabeemers who completed the 223 backroad turns in 1,293 miles within 48 hours All Around Alabama Challenge.

There are 420 tickets earned by 26 Alabeemers for a chance to win four great grand prizes. Joan and Terry Ware of Terry's Two Wheel are donating either a Scorpion Transformer helmet (mine ) or a riding jacket (winner's choice). Maurice Green of Catoma Outdoor is donating two of his great tents, a Switch Back and a 2 Up. When I talked to Maurice earlier this week and mentioned that I had the a prototype to give, he asked me to give it to a charity, and he would replace it with a new Switch Back, WOW!. He also mentioned that the new and improved 2 Up will not be available until mid to late February and if the winner wants a Switch Back at Montevallo, then he will provide one. Last but not least, Kermit Easterling with Kermit's Camping Products is donating one of his fantastic Kermit Duffels.

The fun begins when Vance pulls out his ticket machine and the drawing starts.

I think our amendment vote will be near the last item on the agenda. When we do start the procedure, my wish is for all of us to leave our emotions at home and know that every Alabeemer wishes only the best for our wonderful club. Granted, we have varying opinions as to how to go about it. Which ever way the vote goes, I am in and will do all in my power to help our leaders continue the legacy of success that we are so fortunate to have.

If we do not leave our emotions at home, this is what will happen:

              Sure is Gator .

I was rooting for the Vikings just because an old guy was doing so well and would have been the oldest QB to play in a Super Bowl. His laying on the ground in a heap so many times does indeed remind me a little of that chicken. Now I can root for a team from the South. Only other time I can remember we had a team was the Tennessee Titans. The Saints ain't the Aint's any more.

I just hope we won't look like like that chicken after the voting procedure is finished.

Loking forward to seeing you y'all in Montevallo.

I forgot to mention that it isn't too late for folks to send me their ABEES counts for the first time or updates for additional tickets. Also, please send your counts to me before the Sunday meeting like one of my favorite Alabeemers did last year . But that's OK too. Remember, it takes only one ticket to win.
