Hello - I will be riding up from New Orleans area to Atlanta. Will take mostly Interstate (time). Are there any 2 lane beauties I should not miss on the way. I live 20ml east of Albany NY and know nothing of this area of the country. I plan to take the Natches Trace Prkwy south from Tenn. All suggestions welcome. Thanks, Bol Dor Bill (Bol D'Or Red R90/6) Stephentown, NY

    Hi Bol,
Do you happen to have Garmin GPS capability? Depending on the time you want to spend there are several good options to traverse our state West to East. One place that comes to mind is our highest point in Alabama Cheaha State Park. Cheaha is located just south of I-20 and just west of the Georgia border. That would be an easy detour from the interstate and get you into some great riding areas.

Also, you may want to visit http://bmwmoal.org/gps_route_planning.php for a look at some other interesting points along your way and plan a route accordingly.

When are you planning to take this trip?

Glad to have you come through our state. Here is nice diversion to interstate.

Taking I-20 east exit at Exit #191 (just past Oxford, AL), this will be US 431.
Take US 431 north to US 78.
Right (east) on US 78 to AL 281 south (Cheaha Scenic Parkway) to Cheaha State Park.
At park retrace route (AL 281 north) to AL 49.
Take AL 49 south to Lineville, AL. At Lineville take AL 48 east to Georgia state line.
Hwy will become GA 5 and then GA 100.
At Bowdon take GA 166 to I-20.

If you have the time, I think you will enjoy this.

Thank you, that is just the info I am looking for. I am visiting a friend in Cincinnati May 15th and want to visit another friend in Atlanta the next weekend. In-between I want to pursue the frivolous activity of collecting states. I have never been to Louisiana, Mississippi or Alabama. I do not anticipate coming this far south again for some time, if ever. The Trace seems like the best way to get from Tennessee to Louisiana. I’m thinking 2 days down, 2 days back to Atlanta, with 1 extra day wiggle room. I just want to be sure I don’t blow by some special riding roads while mindlessly cruising up the Interstate. The little diversions suggested may be just the ticket. Thanks again. -bill

Thanks Martin and Vance, that does look like a nice loop, and I have it marked on my map (No GPS, yellow hi-lite on free Alabama DOT map that your fine state has sent to me) I am planning on passing through the area some time during the week of May 17th -bill

If you're not going to be in Alabama often, you have to hit the Barber museum atleast once.

This route will take you from there right by 29 Dreams off Hwy 25,

some real good twisty bits on this hwy: link

The first map wouldn't let me add any more waypoints after Micaville, so here's Micaville to Douglasville,Ga:
