  • Cajun party and cruise

Wanda and I went to a party hosted by one of her High shool classmates at their home on Belle River. He and his wife host this party every year and invite all of the classmates. He provides everything and does not ask anyone to share the expenses. We feasted on lots of boiled crawfish with all of the trimmings, boiled corn, potatoes, and sausage. Many of the classmates brought snacks and desserts. I wish he had done this before I started my diet. After eating our fill of the cajun delights we all boarded the home of our hosts and were treated to a cruise down Belle River to a local waterfront marina and bar for a few more refreshments. Then we boarded their home and enjoyed a leasurely cruise back to their dock along the river. We arrived just at nightfall after enjoying the many sights along the way, including lots of eagles and beautiful homes along the river. It wasn't a motorcycle ride but it was still a great day. Here is a link to a few phots of the day.

Does this mean that you and wanda are going to host a party and no one will have to help with the expenses? Sorry, just thought that line was not needed. This club does an excellent job of having meetings that are hosted by its members and some of those meetings that are hosted come at the last minute as such as last month to insure that the members of this club continue to enjoy the comradrarie and friendship that it has developed over the years. The cost of these events is always held to a minimum and in a lot of the meetings there is a loss.
No one talks about the losses due to the fact that they only want to insure that the fellowship of this club continues. At some of the meetings refreshments and items are served on Sat. morning and donated by the meeting host and not included in the meal cost. It hurts when this happens and people are overheard to say that things could be better. How do you make things better than how we have it now with those that volunteer to host these events and those that volunteer to help the hosts to insure that the event is a success and everyone has a great time.

Sorry if this offends anyone, but the "Core" element of this club continually steps up to the plate and ensures that the club continues to exist.

Thank you to all those that host the club functions and the volunteers that help them during those functions to insure a great time is had by all.

Jim, that was not my intention when I wrote that line in my OP. I was merely trying to share a story about a nice day we had spent with a group of Wanda's classmates and I thought that it was really nice of them to put this party on every year at their expense. I was not even thinking about any of the club gatherings when I wrote it. I am sorry if it offended you and Sheila or anyone else. It had nothing to do with our club. I was not complaining or criticizing the way any of our club functions and meals are handled. We are glad to be able to attend the meetings that we can and are happy to share in the costs involved for putting them on no matter what they might be. I have never had a problem with paying my own way because that's how I was raised. There may some people in the club that have complaints about meeting and meal costs but I'm not one of them. Again, sorry if I offended you and Sheila and others who host our meetings, it was not the intention of my post.

This hit me for a loop. Jim, this isn't like you, so I suspect there is an impersonator some where down there in LA .

I enjoyed very much Gator's presentation of Wanda's school chums' party which reminded me of the many times some club members and I were invited to Cocodrie, LA for the most wonderful Cajun hostility and food imaginable. I have been fortunate to visit many places in the world and never have I enjoyed better fellowship than with folks living in South Louisiana.

I absolutely saw no where in Gator's presentation where he gave any consideration to our club meetings. I guess one has to be with the wonderful Cajun folks to understand, and I highly recommend that every Alabeemer visit the Swamp Scooter Rally in Carencro, LA at least once to get some idea of where I speak.

I heard no complaints about our great meeting in Gulf Shores and if someone did, they don't know what the @#*&# they are talking about. I enjoyed your shrimp boil immensely and your German continental breakfast was fantastic too. Actually, I think you and Sheila must have some Cajun in you because you are such grand hosts.
