Just got back in a few hours ago from a long weekend with Krista. We headed up to see Elekta on Friday for a late breakfast. The diner is doing well and Elekta seems to be as well. She plans on being at the meeting next weekend.
After leaving Gadsden, we stayed on 11 up to the Fort Payne area and then jumped up to Mentone to enjoy a nice lunch at the Wildflower Cafe with John and Joy Merrell. What a treat it was to see them and their new Ural with hack!
We left them and headed up to the Iron Horse for the weekend were I booked a room in one of the small cabins. A great call on my part as it poured Friday eveing!!! John and Charlene have done some serious upgrades and expansions since last summer. The entire entrance down to the main building is now paved. They have added a couple more cabins and installed a rock fireplace in the large buidling. The small covered area off the main room was closed in and aircondtioned as well. They now have two TV viewing areas with sectionals.
Krista and I ended up watching Avatar on the big screen with surround sound. It was pretty awesome I have to say.
We had dinner there, butteryfly shrimp, potatoe and salad on Friday, and Primerib or MahiMahi on Saturday with potatoe, salad and dinner roll. It was excellent!! Did I mention the Blackberry Cobbler?
We spent the day Saturday riding to Balsam, NC to see the Balsam Mountain Inn that is a massive B&B. It s really neat to visit if you have not been there.
After seeing the Inn, we went to Helen so my just turned 21 year old could get her first German draft. Of course we had to have a brat as well. A very nice afternoon and ride back to the Iron Horse after that.
We left out eary this morning and took the Cherohala over to Tellico Plains to eat breakfast at the Tellico Cafe and Bakery in the small town square. It was very quaint and very reasonable. From there it was down to Southside, AL to see my other daughter's place. She moved yesterday from Birmingham.
I dropped Krista off in Birmingham and headed home. It was hot!!!
A very nice weekend for sure.
