  • Bad demo ride

While at Hebert's Saturday morning hanging out with the "regulars" we had a pretty good scare. James, one of the regulars showed up with a friend who was riding a Yamaha sport bike. The friend signed up for a demo ride on an S1000RR. James follwed him on the friend's Yamaha. Some time later someone drove up to the shop in an SUV and said that two motorcycles had crashed on Seigen Lane just a few blocks from the shop. Jame's wife then got a text from James telling her that they had been in an accident. Corey and Andy went to the site and found that while on their way back to the shop, a woman made a left turn in front of them. When she noticed the bikes approaching she stopped directly in front of them. The friend on the S1000 crashed into the car. James did not hit the car but went down pretty hard trying to avoid the car and other bike. James had some torn up pants and a nasty bruise and abraision on his knee along with being pretty sore. The friend was unconscious for quite some time and was taken by EMS to the hospital. The S1000 had extensive damage (probably totaled). The Yamaha was scraped up pretty good with a few bent parts. We haven't heard any more about the friend's condition since we left Saturday but word received at the shop Saturday was that he was conscious and didn't appear to have any major injuries. Seigen Lane where this occurred is six lanes and this was at an intersection with a traffic light which was green for the bikes. There is also a left turn signal in both directions so the woman could not have had a green turn signal arrow on. Just goes to show that you should never assume that you have the right of way. Always assume that someone else is going to do something that they shouldn't. Slow down and leave yourself a way out.

Wow...sorry to hear about this. Demo ride or not you are exactly right...lose concentration even for a brief moment and disaster can strike. And as we all have seen sometines as the rider you don't even have to lose concentration to be the loser....I hope this guy is OK and James is too. After all the hardware is really just stuff...the rider is the important part!

    Ride safe everyone!
