At the meeting this weekend in Blue Springs, I mentioned my desire to start a local chapter of the MAC an organization that originated in Louisiana that promotes safety and awareness of motorcycles. There was a good discussion of this and how it could becoe an initiative of the BMW MOAL. I mentioned I would post some information about this so that all could learn about it. MAC stands for Motorcycle Awareness Campaign. MAC is a 501 (C)3 organization that seeks individual annual memberships of $15 each as well as corporate and state sponsorships. These funds are used to further motorcycle rider education and purchase billboard, radio and TV advertising with the goal of educating the motoring public on how to operate around motorcycles. All the monies raised locally stay with the local chapter and are put to work!
This program is now seven years old and has made great strides for safety in LA. MAC has even gotten personalized license plates made available for bikes and cars in LA with all the money going toward the effort. MAC is a structured program with definate goals, a great track record and has made a difference in motorcycle safety.
