  • Looking for good Zydeco in the bayou???

We will be in south LA next couple days and Melanie is looking for some good Zydeco music. Any ideas from any of you members down in the "swamp"?

    Hey Greg.

You will be in one to be best places in the world for good times, good food and great music. You didn't mention where you will be, so I will recommend that you head to Lafayette. There are lots of good and reasonable motels at the intersection of I10 & I49. I like LaQuinta Inn.

Here are three good websites to get you started. The first one lists several places to go. I have been to Mulates, Prejean's and Cafe Des Amis. I like Prejean's much better than Mulates because the food is better (to my taste). If you are going to be there over the weekend, do not miss going to Cafe Des Amis in Breaux Birdge for their Zydeco breakfast (get there early). Cafe Des Amis is also an excellent place to go for breakfast and lunch during the week and on Sunday.

The most fun I have had in the area is at Angell's Whiskey River Landing which is near Henderson (east of Lafayette about 10 miles) on the Atchafalya Basin. They are open only on Sunday afternoons from 4pm till 9 ish. If you are lucky, Geno Delafuse will be there. I do not have the words to describe how fantastic this place is. The second and third links are the links for Angell's Whiskey River.

Cafe Des Amis in Breaux Bridge is a very good place for breakfast; just don't order pancakes...ask Gator.

        Greg.

        One other suggestion.

If you want to immerse your self totally in the Cajun surroundings, the Basin Landing in Henderson is a good place to stay. They have floating cabins and house boats and is a good place to hang out at Turtle Bar. It is located about 1/4 -1/2 mile hike to Whiskey River, so you won't have to ride back after having a few brews. Tucker Freeman is the owner and is a great guy. He will also take you on an airboat ride while there. Here is the link:

Sounds good, Gator. We are down in the TX hill country right now and really love it. We should be back up that way around the weekend or the beginning of the week. We will let you know.

Fantastic Greg, I really enjoyed the Hill Country when I went back in October. Y'all have fun and give us a shout when you get near. Y'all can check in to the Gatorville B&B for a night or two if you want.

I'd like to give out a big thank-you to the Gatorville BNB for the fun afternoon and evening, tour, education, and accommodations. I heard thru the grapevine that Gypsy Girl misses cuddling up in the chair with Gator. Wanda might have some pictures???

Greg, we really enjoyed y'all visit. Wish the weather would have been a little nicer. Hope y'all had a good trip up to Arkansas. You're welcome back anytime, hopefully soon, the deer miss Gypsy.
