  • Gators spotted in the Smokies

Hi everyone. Wanda and I got in from our trip at about 11 A.M. today. Wish that we were still up there. We enjoyed the campout and meeting in Jasper. It was good seeing everyone again. Tommy and Jeannine, the food was great. Wish that we could have made it to Shiloh with ya'll. We made it to Phil and Leslie's Sunday evening late by route of 64 out of Cleveland, 30 to Tellico, the Cherohala, 28, 74 to the Parkway, then 215 and 276 to Cruso. After my doctor's visit in Waynesville Monday morning, we went to the Biltmore. Wanda really enjoyed the tour. We returned to Cruso and stayed again Monday night. I stayed up late that night talking to Phil. Had a great time. We left Tuesday morning and rode on and off the Parkway till Meadows of Dan Va., great little town. Wed we made it to Big Meadows Park on Skyline Drive and rented a cabin. we got there early so we had time to hike to one of the falls. Not a lot of water flow over the falls due to the drought. Started heading back thur and stayed in Maggie Valley. We got some light rain on the way and a pretty good rain in Maggie Valley. We went to Wheels thru Time museum which was enjoyable. We nearly had a serious mishap on I-40 out of Asheville. It was raining and an idiot in a cage cut right in front of me. After I expressed my displeasure with a gesture he cut back in front of me and slammed on his brakes. Thank heaven for ABS. I couldn't get his license number. We left Maggie Valley Fiday and rode 19 through Cherokee then 74 through the Nantahala Gorge. When we crossed the Little Tenn River, we couldn't believe how low the water was. We've never seen it that low. Ther wasn't enough water left in it to float a canoe. Unbelievable. We then took 129 through Robbinsville and the Cherohala and 30 back to 64 and Cleveland. We then just rode the slab and made it to Meridian for the night. We left there this morning and finished the trip. We had a great time and the weather was good for most of the time. Could have been a little cooler though. I hope everyone is enjoying the rally at Shiloh. We wish ya'll a great time and a safe trip back.

Glad you and Wanda had such a great trip. Even "gladder" your eye is doing better.

I hope you were able to see the leaves changing in North Carolina and Virginia?

Hope to see y'all at Little River Forest.

Thanks Bob, it was a great trip. We did see some colors in spots but with the drought the leaves are not changing a lot yet. The best spot was on the N.C. side of the Cherohala Skyway, everywhere else was spotty. Don't know if we'll be able to make it to Little River Forest, Wanda doesn't have enough leave left. We'll see, if not have fun and be safe.
