  • T4 to the rescue

Thanks to Terry and Joan for helping out a fellow BMW rider on his trip across the US. David (Doc47) as he is know on the BMWST.com board had an engine issue near mobile and had his biked towed. It ended up in Pelham and in the good hands of Terry and Joan. They took care of him as well. Great kudos on the BMWST board to you too.

Now hopefully we can fine him an engine for his 2002 F650GS!

Hey Steve, I was at T4 Wednesday and met Doc. A very interesting man. If anyone can get him back on the road it's Terry for sure. Hope his engine is not totally toast. I couldn't find his post on the website you mentioned.

Doc's post on the BMWST.com DB

      Here it is Jim:

This Board is such an amazing place!!!
And Whip...a one man Samaritan army. Due to him:
My bike is now safe and plans have been made for removal and rehab.
RoadScholar has offered and I have accepted, extended loan of a '99 R1100RT which I will pick up in J'ville, Florida, and continue my planned ride west to the Northwest, visiting friends and donors en route.
From the kindness of Whip and RoadScholar I am flying to J'ville tonight.
Chris Kinney from Atlanta is coming to get the Dakar here in Pelham, AL, and take it to Atlanta.
Here in Pelham I have been hosted by Terry and Joan Ware of Terry's Two Wheel. Terry is an independent BMW wrench with many, many years experience and they have gone overboard to help a complete stranger. I thank them and recommend their shop to anyone in the Birmingham area.
Sitting beside Route 65 yesterday, with dusk falling and cars and trucks whizzing by I was a bit dismayed that the bike I'd only ridden for three days was, as the French say, hors de combat. (That means down for the count.) An African American man stopped by after I'd sat for an hour and when I told him I was doing OK, gave me a flashlight "just in case".
A bit later, an off-duty police lieutenant from Greenville, and his wife stopped. They stayed with me for an hour until the wrecker came. They laid another flashlight on me "just to make sure" and invited me for coffee if I came through again.
The incredible kindness of some people is a moving and humbling experience.
Kathy R, I love ya, woman!
And you others on the Board, you make me know that though far from home I'm not alone.
      Love,
      doc

            Doc

Terry and I enjoyed meeting Doc and having him spend the day in the shop, while waiting for his flight to pick up the RT. Doc is such an interesting guy and is so giving. Hope to cross paths with him on the road somewhere.
