  • BMW MOA benefits

Still doing my homework/prep. Are there any 'pitfalls' in BMWMOA membership?
Thinking mainly of the roadside assistance benefits.

Pitfalls? I think not..but then (full disclosure) I am on the BoD for the MOA! What I think you are referring to is the Platinum membership level that includes the road service option. What I can tell you about that specifcally is that this has been a very successful program for our members. If you are interested in a road service package I think you will be well pleased with it.

Of course that is but one of the advantages of MOA membership. The monthly ON magazine, access to the forums, the free flea market, additional discounts, thee Owners Anonymous book are just a few of the other benefits.

The greatest of all may well be the friendship and association with like minded people across the country and across the world!

We would love to have you join us. You can do that online or if you have any other specific questions just let me know. If I don't have the answer, I bet I can find someone that does!

I hope you will join our little club of about 35,000 members worldwide!!

      To Caveat Vance

I have had the Platinum membership with road side assistance for over three years now. I personally have not had to use it, so I wouldn't be able to speak definitively on the full aspects of it's benefits. I did however, call the road side assistance number that I put in my contacts list in my phone when I first joined BMW MOA, and when I called that number a competent sounding lady answered on the first ring with a greeting that sounded something like this, "BMW MOA roadside assistance. Are you in a safe place?" It gave me the warm fuzzy feeling necessary to decline the additional cost of a road side assistance option available through my motorcycle insurance. And of course there is all those other benefits Vance talks about too.

Thank you for good news! I will be signing up right after I get the bike, hopefully this month.

By the way, are there any Fly & Ride deals/discounts? I might have to fly to Houston or Indianapolis if I miss the local deal.

It is great to support the BMWMOA, but, as someone that has used roadside assistance, my thoughts. Most programs have a limit of miles that they will tow your bike if it breaks down. I joined Good Sams that states they will take you to the nearest certified, qualified dealer. My LR broke down in southern Utah and needed assistance. The nearest motorcycle dealership was 50 miles away, BMW dealership was 250 miles away. After explaining to them the need for a BMW dealership they took us to LV at no extra cost or questions. Plus they cover ALL your vehicles, including RVs and campers, for the same cost.

I can't tell you about the roadside assistance, but I will sing the praises of the members we have met through the Anonymous Book. Twice we have had to call on fellow members to come to our assistance. They made what could have been catastrophic circumstances almost enjoyable.
That, to me, is the best thing about the MOA.

Share an Anonymous Book story from the other side...several years ago a rider from Australia broke down in Hamilton, Al....I was listed in the BMW MOA Anonymous book... I got the call...it was the 4th of July... I was on a trip as well, boarding the ferry to Nova Scotia.. when I got the call.... I told the rider that I would have help there shortly.. I called a friend, BMW bike owner, in Hamilton and he responded...

He carried her and her bike (yes a lady rider from Australia and member of BMW MOA) to Birmingham to the nearest BMW shop (at the time).

My second time to be call, rider needed minor help...I responded and he was on his way ....
