  • Good Lunch Spot near Waldo / Talladega?

    Hi everyone,

my name is Wolfgang Enneker and I am with the GA club. I am considering to lead a GA club ride into the Talladega/Waldo/Mt. Cheaha area. We used to have lunch at the Old Mill restaurant near the covered bridge in Waldo, but that is close now? Does anyone have a recommendation for a good lunch spot in this area?

    Thank you in advance,

    Wolfgang

Welcome to the forum Wolfgang... this weekend several are at a monthly club meeting (without internet)... I am across state from your place of question, sure others will answer you the first of the week. We have several members that are more familiar than I of the area.

Within the State Park, there is a restaurant atop Mt. Cheaha also.

Thank you for the fast reply Don. I didn't think about the restaurant inside the State Park. This may be our lunch spot unless someone has a better idea.
By the way: Yesterday, some of us rode down to Columbus, GA (close to the AL border) and visited the National Infantry Museum. It is a very good museum and had a decent restaurant. I would recommend it.

      Thank you again,

      Wolfgang

Wolfgang, Red's Catfish Cabin is another place close to Cheaha. It is on the list "100 Dishes You Need to Eat Before You Die". I would recommend this to anyone. If you use a gps, I have attached a file for Red's.

              Wolfgang.

Martin gave you an excellent recommendation, and I'll wager you will like Red's better than the Old Mill. There is only a small Red's sign at the little drive that will take you to the restaurant which is located a few hundred yards on the left of Catfish Road, going west. If you get to Fuller road you have passed it. Just turn arroud and go back 1/2 mile. It will be on your right.

                  Hey Steve,

Not the best I ever had but darn close. The best was at the Boatel on Pickwick Lake in the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s . The original owners, Bill and Betty Bellis retired in 199?. The catfish is not as good now, but it is still good.

When you return home for your break, lets meet at Red's for lunch. I'll ride the R90s, so bring you classic.

                  Be safe my friend.
