OK so it is on the North side of 100 degrees in good ole central Alabama now and for the several days. BUT...Tomorrow is Saturday and by golly I am going riding anyway!! Are you??
I'm riding to the shop in B.R. to meet a couples of others and go for a ride somwhere, don't know where yet. One thing's for sure, it's gonna be HOTTTTTTTT.
Needed to head to Guin from Chattanooga yesterday...so I chose late afternoon after 6 PM cooler time, yep cooler... Chattanooga I24 was 108 on my bike...felt like a had giant hair dryer blowing on me....then as I got to the shade of 1 59 near Trenton is cooled down to nice 97, a 10 degree drop was welcome relief....I pulled into the rest stop at State line to remove my NEW cool vest... they missed the technology on this one...it felt like a hot dish rag (cloth for you city folks) wrapped around me...I was riding with BMW venting machine pants and jacket and my base layer (underwear for you country folks) was merino wool (don't let the wool fool you, the best I have have ever owned, pricey yes but comfort and easy to manage on the road out weighs it)
I chose the interstate just to keep moving and the shade from the mountain on 59 provided temps in mid 90s ..... but in BHam at 8 PM was 100 and corridor X was a mix of high 100 to low of 85 in valleys near river.... finally at about 10 I rolled into Guin with nice 80 degree....
I was using my water bladder in my ice packed Polar Bear Cooler bag (great product) with extended hose attached to me.
My TPMS was showing pressure had increased only 6 pounds in each tire... I was expecting more...
It was a recording setting day for temps....did the ride in Iron (Hot) Butt pace... glad to be here in AC today...
Take plenty of water folks...it's hot out there and be thankful...got friends in Woodland Park CO that may loose their home today due to wild fires. The guy that brought me my sidecar rig from Colorado when I had my knee replacement few years back... may have heard the story..
I was slow to get going today but finally left the house with the cool vest and plenty of water. First stop was Terry's Two Wheel. Hung out there for almost an hour. Finally left and headed out 119 toward Leeds and down 25. Decided to turn left onto Grants Mill and soon found myself at 459...where I jumped on the interstate right back to Helena...it just was not much fun. But I did ride...anyway...lol....
Maybe I will try again tomorrow????
