  • Virus Warning

I got a pretty bad virus (Trojan Hoarse) from an e-mail from Jerry Settle and it has passed itself through my entire phone book. If you get an e-mail from me titled something like "hi tell me what you think about this", DO NOT OPEN IT. Delete it without opening.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

If you did by chance open the link on my e-mail then you are most likely infected. I ran a download from Microsoft called Microsoft Safety Scanner http://www.microsoft.com/security/sc...s/default.aspx (Be sure to select version of Windows that you are using.) You may have antivirus software that you prefer, just run the full scan mode.

On my PC laptop it took 5 hours for the full scan to run, but it was successful in ridding me of the problem. The virus is fairly deep rooted so the quick scan will not detect it.

Again, I apologize for any harm that I have caused.

        Jamie,

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't get the virus but I would like to know what anti-virus program you were running that permited your computer to be infected.

        Thanks,
        Steve

My primary defense is (was) Avira. I have now installed Microsoft Essentials. It is very hard to keep up with the creeps. By the way, a scan with Avira only detected part of the files associated with the Trojan Horse. Microsoft Safety Scanner finished it off.

            Thanks for the info Jamie.

I didn't open it, but will do a full scan just the be sure there isn't a problem.

I use the 2013 free AVG anti virus program and am wondering if anyone using AVG contacted the virus?

I use Norton Antivirus, have been for a few years now and haven't had any infections as yet. I also run two other free programs that I found on the internet that helps keep my pc clean, MalwareBytes and Super Anti-spyware.

Bump just to remind folks to be wary of these malware spams. Most personal emails to me don't have anything in the subject box so I am particularly wary it there are things there like "Hi look at this". I got two of them today.
