  • An amazing closed course riding challenge

This motor officer's ride is amazing. Listen closely for the sound of his floor boards scraping the pavement.

      WHEW! That's great riding!
I watched the Broward County riding officers practice at Pompano Beach when I worked there a few years ago, and they really work at that skill. Who said a Harley couldn't maneuver well?!
When I took the AMA "Advanced Rider" course on a gold wing, it was not as difficult as this course, but was nonetheless a challenge to get thru.

The Regional finals of the Police Motorcycle Skills competion has been held for the pst several years near here at the Cabellas store in Gonzales, La. It is really something to see. These guys are very skilled riders. The bikes are mostly Harleys but there are a few BMWs in the competion also. Don't brush up against the floorboards of the Harleys. The outer edges are razor thin from scraping in the turns. Another really great part of the competion is the partnered riding course where two bikes are tethered with a 30" strap attaced with velcro. The two officers then run a course for time making right and left hand turns around obstacles without breaking the strap, amazing.

The cops here have tried using m/c several times over the past years with no luck. They all "think" they can ride, but they have found that, after a couple of them were severely injured, they had better stick with cars. It's not like they were in a high speed chase or anything, they just kinda crash for no reason. Had to "lay it down" you know. Gail

That is exactly what happened around here in our city and the neighboring one. They had those big ole Harleys of course with their guys in shirts and half helmets. We had one get hurt really bad...single vehicle accident in the ball park of all places that resulted in a big lawsuit filed on the city ...by the motor officer....and that was enough for them to get out of their motor officer programs. And that incident scared the neighboring city so much...they sold their bikes too!
