  • The Adventure RAid, part of the BMW RA Rally

Hey fellow Alabeemers - first, let me apologize for being a bit rare around here on our forum, or at our meetings. Work is busy, and so is my volunteering schedule these days.

Have you all heard about The Adventure RAid at this year's RA Rally?

It will start for out-of-town riders on Monday evening, May 26 with a GS Gypsy Tour starting from Cherohala Mountain Trails and Blue Ridge MC Campground. There's noise starting on ADVrider about a ride starting from Florida. I was also thinking about a ride starting from Arkansas, but no one's barked about that one yet.

Here's a basic outline of the GS Gypsy Tour:

Anyone who's been to Barber Vintage knows there very good off-pavement riding right on-site. We are going to have two areas for our use: the first is at the west end of the park, where they run the vintage cross country; the second is an area you may not know about... an area at the east end of the park, where the Porsche Cayenne was introduced to the press some years back.

The cross country area features great sloping ground, and single-track trail (smaller bikes only), the Cayenne area is 2-track with an obstacle section.

We'll be doing dayrides, a track competition, and something new.... a time/speed/distance challenge with special test sections.

If I can get any sponsors to show us some love, we'll have some nice prizes.

And.... I could really use some volunteer help, if you've got a little time.
    • Do you know of some dirt road riding near (< half hour) the rally? Kentuck and Top Trails, as well as Talladega NF are over an hour away.
    • Does anyone know anyone at the Chelsea Hunt Club?
    • Does anyone feel like making an ATV available for extracting bikes?
    • Can you help out with leading local rides, helping build the track, scorekeeping, rider sign-in, etc?

Please chime in here if you think you can help.

    Thanks!

    Ian Schmeisser
