  • Gifted writers

I've just finished reading my January issue of the The Alabama Beemer newsletter. After thouroughly enjoying every word(couldn't put it down until I finished), I have come to the conclusion that some of you have missed your calling. There are some gifted writers in this club. Vance, I felt as though I had actually been on the dual sport ride. You might want to divert some of your cerebral cells from writing to memory and take along a sleeping bag next time. Terese, I really enjoyed the article that you submitted. I think that it will benefit us all. Great article Connie. Sorry that you didn't get the $50, bummer. You'll forget all about any bad luck when your son gets home. Have a happy 2008. Paul and Gail, I'm in awe. What a feat. Too bad those gas stops slowed you down some. You don't suppose that those gas stations were owned by Bob Steber do you(joking Bob). Congratulations, a fantastic ride and great article. We should all be proud that we have such talented people in the club. Keep up the good work.

Gator, because of the talent within the club my job has become much easier. Thanks to all of you for your submissions of material for the newsletter. Members seem to enjoy reading articles about members that are written by members.

Vance, I too thought you wrote an exceptional article. Maybe you have missed your calling. Kinda makes me feel bad because I tried to throw mud on you at Waterloo (Not really) While I'm in a complementary mood.... Jamie, I just can't say enough about the good job you are doing with the news letter, and I know Malvene helps. That is a job no one really wants, and I appreciate you doing it. Paul & I look forward to the newsletter every month. If you have ever seen some of the other clubs newletters, you can really appreciate ours. I truely value all the friends belonging to this club has made possible for Paul and myself. Of course it goes without saying where this club would be without Connie. You are the backbone of our club, and it just wouldn't be the same without you. Thanks to all my fellow club members, but especially the officers, who make our club meetings something to really look forward to each month. NO, I'm not drinking I just wanted to say thanks. Gail

Jamie, please forgive me for not mentioning your contribution. No newsletter or publication of any kind would be worth anything without a great editor and you my friend are a great editor. I know that it's hard work and is sometimes a thankless job that many don't want but you do as good a job at it as anyone else could. We are lucky to have you and hope that you continue to do so. Thanks to you and Malvene for doing such a great job in putting the newsletter together and getting out to the membership every month. And thanks to all the officers and committee members who make this such a great club. You all do us proud.

Thanks everyone. I enjoy writing the articles and the kind of time we had made that one easy. All I had to do was tell what happened! And Gail. I'll have you know I have my tire fixed now, so we'll see who throws mud next time!

I too am very proud of the newsletter and I too thank you Jamie and Malvene for what you do for us!

Folks we have a great club and I look forward to an even greater 2008 and beyond! Rally time is coming!!!!! Can you smell chicken????

              aawwww geeeee gail................

I have to say Gail is right about one thing for sure, and I have seen other club's newsletters. Ours is by FAR 500 steps above anything else the others put out. The million mile BMW rider, and motorcycle stories writer, and PH.D. college professor of writing, Mark "Tiger" Edmonds, has said that abou tour newsletter many times. He is on our mailing list and gets our newsletter each month as a complimentary copy. He writes me letters by snail mail about every two months and never fails to say what a cut above our newsletter is. He gets other BMW club newsletters and he sends me some of them occassionally and he's right. They are nothing compared to ours. He's very impressed by it. He's also about to be able to retire and may be able to make our rally this year. He looks kind of like Willie Nelson and is great fun to read. He also sends me sections of writings he has in the works and other short stories. I'll bring a bunch of that stuff to the Montevallo meeting and a list of his books (Mari has one of mine right now) if anyone is interested.

Back to the subject though. Jamie should give imself a pat on the back (if he won't pull anything doin it) because his newsletter has been officially stamped as a truly good piece of work by a really critical, prominent, Professor and writer. So THERE YA GO !!

As far as Vance and Mari, Malvene, Jeannine, Marty, and Bob goes....well I couldn't do what I do at all unless I had all those folks (and previous ones) to do their parts.

And for you all to know...........Vance and I not only smell chicken right now, we are already ankle deep in chicken poop with the planning and setting up for the rally.

Just found my list. Here's a couple of the old curmudgeon's books. Probably White Horse Press, Amazon.com, or the sorts, you can get them. He's anti "suits" , anti Wal-Mart which he calls MartMart in print, and anti lazy kids of the current generation. But he's funny as hell while being all "anti", and anti computers.

Longrider: A Tale of Just Passin Through
                Tales of Scootertrash Past

Either is good. And he has another book in the works (non scooter related he says) called Hard Scrabble. Says it should be out sometime this spring.

He also does a radio show called Curmudgeon Chronicles where he spouts on about these things. You can go to the following link and listen to some of his ramblings. http://www.cycleriderradio.com/kreport.html

The newsletter, I read it cover to cover in the hand, then take at look it on the web site as well.

                  Thanks all...

BTW, Vance I got a little chill just reading your story...

                    Newsletter

Although I don't get a copy of the newsletter - I am able to pull it up online and on occasion Gary will bring me the hard copy to read- The pictures in this last one were great - however, I never really considered myself as part of a harem until I saw how comfortable I was with all the other women surrounding you Jamie - looks like I might give up my current occupation. However, wasn't there suppose to some money associated with this - Jamie - I haven't received my check.

I guess because you're the editor - it would not have looked good putting OUR picture on the front page - just as well - I'm glad this candid photo of Bob was featured - OOPS - A fitting caption would have been - "got your hand caught in the cookie jar?"

Great job - hope you get all the credit you deserve and more for this undertaking every month - I'm sure it can be a thankless job.
