  • Snowmobiling in Yellowstone

Wanda and I are leaving right after the club Christmas party and driving up to Jackson Hole, Wy. We made reservations for a snowmobile tour into Yellowstone NP. It's been on my bucket list. Plan on being in Jackson for several days and doing some more snowy stuff. Anybody wanna go? Se y'all in B'ham on the 12th.

I flew a trip into Bozeman MT several years ago and drove down to West Yellowstone to do the ride into the Lodge on snow mobiles. It was very organized and they made sure you stayed in line and on the road. They did stop at some scenic spots to let everyone get off and take pictures etc. They had helmets and riding gear you could rent but I took my own with me. The other pilot I was with was not a biker so he didn't own any riding gear. The suit they rented him was like an Aerostich suit. The helmets they had were open face with a face shield. I had a flip face helmet with me which I highly recommend that you take with you. You had to have a park pass to enter the park so have yours ready.
There were other rides outside the park where we could see people just buzzing around in open areas having fun. I didn't get involved with any of that. Seeing old faithful in the winter was our only objective. We had lunch in the lodge and then back to town. Great fun, you won't be disappointed.

Jim, we're also going up to Old Faithful and will have lunch at the Lodge there. We'll be going up from the south entrance from Jackson with a tour vendor. I read all of the reviews for this outfitter and they were all great. This tour is all inclusive with pick up at our hotel, shuttle to Flagg Ranch, breakfast, all of the riding gear, (boots-gloves-balaclava-suits-full face modular helmets) snow machines and drop off at our hotel afterwards. About 12 hours in all. We will take along a some of our riding gear just in case. There will be stops along the way for warm up and photo ops, can't wait.
We've been wanting to do this ever since our first trip to Yellowstone. Also plan on doing the tour through the National Elk Refuge by horse-drawn sleigh. May even try my hand at snow skiing . Hope it's as much fun as you said.

Only when the grass is buried under a foot of snow.

Gator: I lived in Denver for 6 years and did a "Continental Divide" snowmobile ride with my 2 daughters the day after Christmas...they loved it, and I know you and Wanda will too! (or, by now, already did it)
                    Cheers from JB

John, you are correct, we did love every minute of it. Rode right at 100 miles that day with lots of snow all day long. The temps weren't too bad and with the gear they provided I was almost too warm. Would do it again in a heartbeat.
