  • Ezell's Catfish Camp/RTE

Today was the annual RTE at Ezell's catfish Camp in Lavaca, AL (near Butler). As some of you know, this is mostly Iron Butt riders, but is certainly open to all. We had a good turnout of 35 riders from all over the U.S. Good food, and a GREAT time. Here are a couple of pictures...the first is a high mileage legend and a friend of ours, Mr. Dave McQueeny who rode from Pomona, California.

Thanks for posting Gail, great photos too. I have been thinking about an RTE to Ezell's from our neck of the woods before the year is over. If it happens, I'll post it well in advance and hopefully you guys can join us there. For catfish, there is no place better.

Nope, that would be the Pickwick Botel run by Bill and Betty Bellis from the 50's till they sold it. Ezell's in Lavaca is a close second though.

Gator, If they had your turtle soup, there isn't enough room there to seat everybody.

Gator, from what I hear your turtle soup is no joke. I don't think they had it on the menu there, but I am sure they could find the main ingredient right out the back door. .

Hey Paul and Gail, If you remember to do it please post a reminder next time this event is going to take place. I have been there a couple times and enjoyed the trip. The first time was with Claude Merrifield. He had a hunting cabin on the river in Demopolis and we spent several weekends down there in Southwest AL with them. He died too young, can't believe it has been over 13 years ago. The other event we liked was that Crawfish Festival down there in Faunsdale.
