  • Finally Got Away!

Well, I have been hemmed up for over a week with Mari's surgery and finally got loose today for a little ride! My Dad is in the hospital at Brookwood so my son Chad (he has just gotten a Yamaha FZ6) went to see Dad and then met my younger brother for a ride out 25 to the lakehouse at Logan Martin Dam and then back up 25. It was a beautiful day if a little warm but it was good to get in about 100 miles! Looking forward to this coming weekend at Little River!

Boards sure are quiet....where is everybody??

I think everybody must be out riding and enjoying this beautiful weather. I was able to get in a little over 700 miles, over three days, while riding Alabama's back roads.

I'm here. Flew to Kabul this morning and back to swap out aircraft. Had a good breakfast there, some of the best pancakes I have eaten. That was on our camp with our own cooks. All in all it was a 550 mile 6 1/2 flight. Now it is 120 in the shade. Stop whinin about being hot!

I am ordering a topcase to match the Krauser bags on the R75. Suz'anne plans on riding with me to the October ribfest meeting. She likes the idea of the luggage instead of a backrest. Heck, the price of the luggage isn't much more than the backrest anyway and it will give us versatility.

Hopefully "Louise" will be able to handle us and our camping gear. Maybe I can put in a reservation for trailer space wit you!

It should be a fun ride.

Good to hear from you Steve. If it's 120 in the shade, it has to be much hotter in your cockpit. Hope you have air conditioning in that bird.

Glad to hear that you and Suz'anne are going to the Rib Fest in October! FYI, its location is way back in the boondocks and you will ford a creek over an under water bridge to get to Lee's farm where the Rib Fest is held. If Vance got his condo on wheels back in there, it would be a permanent move.

Barry and Susan Clay camp two up on their GS with two side cases and a top box, so they can give you some good pointers how to pack. I have noticed that other folks use a U bag to provide more packing space. It would double as a back rest too. Gary Nesmith uses one when he can talk Darlene Two Legs into going with him on his bike.

To change the subject a bit, Jim Dubick got another airhead. It is an 80s /7 and in excellent condition. He told me that he emailed you a photo, but the message was returned. If you have a new email address, please send it to me and I will forward it to Jim. He has a new email address too.

Looking forward to seeing you guys in October.

              Be safe.

This sounds like just the place to break Suz'anne in with motorcycle camping. I have camped with my daughter several times so I pretty much have the packing down. After our little 17 day backpacking adventure through Europe next month, she should have the packing down just right!

No airconditioning in there aircraft. We just remove all 4 doors and get the wind effect.

Gotta go for another 7 mile walk. It gives me something to do and I am really getting into great shape! I have been doing the Crossfit workout program. You guys should check it out at: www.crossfit.com

My email address is the same. Maybe he mistyped it.

Well I here at home at last. Eleven days is the hospital is long enough. Still have about three week of recovery time. Had the gall bladder out the old fashion way. Boy is it sore.

Terry has the bike for service, tires and cluch overhaul It will be ready when I am .

Looks like I am giving you guys some time to catch up and pass me. Enjoy the ride down the week end.

                    Hey Martin,

Man I didn't know you were in the hospital. I guess I missed that one. Glad that all is well. Take time to heal and then get back on the jacket hunt!! Don't let that old outlaw catch up!

                      Martin,
Glad to know you are at home. That hospital thing just ain't no good. Take care of yourself and we look forward to your return!

                      Steve,
I have a U-Bag that you guys can use if you need to. That is is huge and really hard to fill up! We plan to be riding up. I hope Mari is up to it! I think that is going to be a good one for sure!

Thanks Vance. I will keep that in mind. I think I am leaning towards the top box though. I would still have to buy the luggage rack for $150, so the extra $200 on the top box doesn't sound that bad. Suz'anne feels more secure with the box.

                        Take it easy,

                        Steve

Glad to hear you are recovering and out of the hospital Martin. Gary and Angie are getting about 40 ABEES points this weekend but you don't have to worry about any of us catching up with you for a while. The weather is hot and the fuel prices are high. Your totals will be hard to beat.

Looking forward to seeing you back on the road soon.

Mari has done it both ways and if the U-bag is packed full it provides a good backrest. But I have to agree, if it was me I think I would rather have the top box. I do have the top box on Buster and she likes it. We'll just be glad to have you guys along. I think that is going to be a good one!
