Picasa Web has added face recognition.

Picasa Web has added face recognition to their on-line albums. Here is a link to one of our albums where some faces have been identified by Picasa http://picasaweb.google.com/bmwmoal/...VizziniWinery#

View some of the pictures and the people it recognizes will be displayed on the right side of the page. Hover over a face and a name will appear. The first few pictures did not have any faces identified. It seemed to recognize Bob Steber and Vance Harrelson fairly well but some faces that seemed obvious to me were ignored by picasa.

Interesting technology, but it still has a ways to go.

To clarify - The software scans all of the photos and groups all of the "Vance's" together and then asks the album owner to assign a name to the person. It just knows that the same face is contained in several photos - I had to supply the name. The beauty of it is, I only need to identify "Vance" one time - As more photos are added, it already knows what "Vance" looks like.

This is way cool Steve. I did all of my Picasa WebAlbums last night. It wasn't too hard once I got the hang of it. You can still assign a name to persons in a photo that the software doesn't recognize. After you go back through an album it shows a square around some faces that are not identified, you can just click on it and assign a name. Like you said though it still has a little ways to go, sometimes it had a square around an elbow or even an inanimate object and asked you to name it. It would have a square around a person's face way in the background that was not recognizable but would not have it on people that were already named that were in the front of the photo. Still not bad once you figure it out. Thanks for posting the info.
