  • Blue Springs Club Meeting

Thank you Don & Barbara for hosting another great weekend! The chili was wonderful as usual, and the brownies were to die for. Paul & I rode a good bit of the way back in a "white-out", but just as we neared home the sun came out and it was completely clear. I don't think my feet will ever be warm again I hope everyone made it home ok. I am already looking forward to Nauvoo. Gail

Gail, thanks for the post as I had some concerns about those traveling in the snow. Malvene and I look forward to seeing y'all in Nauvoo.

Well, I must admit..it was quite a ride home! The "whiteout" conditions were a first for And me. With snow packed not only on the front of the bike but on ME as well, we forged our way home with no real problem. The looks from those who passed us in those warm cages were interesting!
But you know, Blue Springs is a record setter...and has been ever since we have been going. Thanks to Don & Barbara for another GREAT job! Like Gail said...I wish I had stuck a couple brownies in my pocket! And every body knows its always a good time for a "Little" chili!! Hope everyone got in OK....onward to Nauvoo!!

We were finally able to make it to another meeting and it snows. What did we do to you people. Seriously though we had a great time in spite of the weather. How could anyone not had a great time when you're with such great people. Thanks to Don and Barbera for putting it together. Wow that's some fantastic chile. We did not have quite the "white out" conditions that some of you had on the way home but we did encounter more snow between Troy and Greenville. We stopped for a while at a gas station west of Luverne and waited out the heaviest part. The temperature di not get above 40* untill around 12 noon. We got in to clear skies about 40 miles from Mobile and had blue skies all the way home from there. The wind was terrible though. It was all we could do to hold the bikes on the road at times and that lasted untill we arrived at home around 5:30 P.M. We're still trying to thaw out. We hope everyone made it home without any problems. We'll have to do this again sometime hopefullu without the frozen stuff

Hey folks, sorry I missed the Blue Springs meeting....but had to attend a funeral in Sulligent of a long time friend Saturday afternoon...

Well after the funeral and the word of snow, I decided to head South...you know to get out of the snow path.... well my riding friend Fletcher suggested we meet in Butler.... then we would push on to Daytona for B cube rally....

At 7 AM this morning Butler had a snow fall.... we had breakfast at Hardees and I would imagine the folks there are still talking about the two old men on motocycles riding in the snow.....

Heading out on 84 just WEST of Andulasia...we met a LT with camping gear and snow top....heading West...so if you met two GS Adventures...that was me...

Figured it had to be one of Blue Springs group....

This months meeting was quite an adventure. First I would like to say the ABEES route Martin put together was great! We got to see quite a bit of Alabama history, plus a good bit of flooding from the rain on Saturday and days before.

The meeting itself was great, with good food and a large turnout.

However, waking up today (Sunday) at Blue Springs was a shocker. I did not know it snowed that far south.

Returning home was an adventure in itself. Bob Steber lead Jim Dubick and myself northward. We go into the wet snow whiteout with the bonus feature of pretty low temperatures and stayed in it for a while. Jim and Bob had windscreens that forced the oncoming snow above their heads, while my head stuck right up in that mess on my 1995 GS with the factory windsheild. I wiped my visor in and out with my glove every few seconds. It was my first time riding in snow, and I would never expected it would be in middle Alabama in March. Like Gator, I arrived home around 4:30 and took a while to thaw out.

So now I am on the hunt used Aeroflow in case this happens again. I can take the cold temps, but not being able to see is a pain.

However, I did make it home in one piece and this trip will be one I remember.

Great day for a ride with Bob

Bob said it would not rain on us this weekend since he was leading the ride. However, he didn't say anything about it not snowing on us. See attached pics

                  Pilots/Cops "down and safe"

The Enterprise/Ozark contingent are down and safe, Sam I assume made it at least till Jim's house, as they turned on Shellfield road, and I broke formation, and continued single ship. That's some hellacious riding you all did to get home, impressive... most impressive.

I'm glad everyone made it home safe. I had left the campground Saturday night to stay with my mom in Dothan and planned to go back Sunday morning for the meeting. It didn't work out that way though. I played it safe and stayed 'till Monday to avoid the nasty roads. (My mother would have had a nervous break-down if I had left Sunday.) Looks like it was fun though.

Excellent photos Gator. Thanks for posting them.

Send me your ABEES counts and be sure to add the Club camp out as well as your bonus ticket for attending the Sunday business meeting. You have to be close to your 20 checkoffs to qualify for a ticket plus bonus tickets.
