Plant Identification

Can anyone tell me what the shrubs are that are now in bloom (white blooms that are very sweet smelling) along the highways? I know that it is not honeysuckle nor privet hedge. Any help?

Jamie, That is probably Jasmine, it smells like Honeysuckle. Makes you want to sit out on the porch with a mint julep.

Jim, Thanks for your response but I'm not sure it is Jasmine as it does not have individual flowers but clusters of blooms. I thought it was Sumac but someone told me no. Someone said Privit Hedge but I don't believe that is correct as again it has clusters of blooms.

Hi Jamie!
I could be wrong (was one time before) but I think the plant you are refering to is known as Chinese / European privet [Ligustrum sinense]. We always just called it wild hedge. It is not native to the South, but was brought here years ago and is VERY invasive. I have it on my property, but I like it because if you keep it trimmed up, it will make a nice privacy fence. It sho do smell good too! Gail
