  • Custom Seat ???

I'm looking for a custom seat builder. Anyone know of a good local shop? I had planned to use Rick Myers but he maybe out of business. The phone is disconnected and there are lots of BBB unanswered complaints about missing seats and money. If I can, I would prefer to shop local.

    Thanks

I recently had my RT seats done by Russel Day Long. It is a process that requires pictures of you on the bike and there is a long wait for a slot as they are real busy. I have had real good results from Sargent seats in Jacksonville, FL and the turn around time was not long. I have had several seats done by them. They even have seat pans for some BMW models.

I Also have the Russell Day Long. If you are going to keep the bike and put miles on it go to the Russell. The best seat out there. I have tried them all. TA

We have a Sargent on the F800 and don't care for it. It is pretty hard and doesn't offer a lot of support. The Russell on our RT is wonderful.

I like my Russell but that is more of a long distance touring seat. I have also had great seats from Sargent. As Jim said they have some models in stock and ready to ship. I also think they will do custom work for you...they are located in Jacksonville, FL....just a short lunch ride away!

Anybody have any experience with Corbin? They use their own seat pan so I can keep my stock seat, for whatever that's worth. At least the bike won't be down waiting for a seat.

P.S. I miss spelled Rick's last name. Should be Mayer. Rick Mayer seats are very comfortable and were priced competitively. Not sure what happened

Corbin seats are very firm. However, if it fits your rear end it can be comfortable. What model bike do you ride?

                    that's funny...that is really funny!

Vernon, sometime I'll tell the whole Rick Mayer story....suffice to say...stay away.

As for the Corbin saddles, I have had a couple that I really liked and one I hated. I guess that depends again on model. I think they tend to be a bit harder than a touring saddle like the Russell so not as good for long distance. But if you are looking for more comfort on shorter length trips it might be fine. Again I think it has a lot to do with the shape of the pan and the bike model determines that. The Russell as I and Tommy have is big and wide (which is necessary for me BTW) and allows for more room for them to build a "seat pocket". That coupled with the right foam and build makes the Russell a great touring saddle. Like Tommy said...best I ever had!

I didn't realize that was you Vern, I don't think there is any way to get comfortable with that sport bike posture. There is a guy named Bill that does custom orders at Sargent. He was very helpful with me when I had a custom seat made for Suzi's F650CS. I would at least give him a call and see what he might suggest.

Vernon, try an Alaska Leather But Pad. I've used one for years and it helps tremendously, especially with my Corbin seat. If you try it, you may can save $$$$ by not having to buy a new seat. That being said, I've never had a more comfortable seat than the Russell Day Long that is on the LT.

Upgrade your ride with a premium sheepskin motorcycle seat cover from Alaska Leather at alaskaleather.com. We also offer a stunning collection of handcrafted goods, including pet products, apparel, dog collars and more, all embodying the durability and ruggedness of Alaska.

I had Bill @ Sargent rework one of my saddles. Bill asked me to send them a sketch of what I wanted my reworked seat to look like, what I didn't like about my stock saddle, and a few questions about weight (for suggestions as to foam density to use), then a few questions about fabric choices and welting colors. We discussed his questions, I sent him my saddle and sketch, along with a check. 10 days later I was riding on my reworked saddle. Rode that modified saddle for over 80,000 comfortable miles!

                          YMMV

I have Corbin and have had Sargent seats... On our K75S the Corbin low seat is wonderful and provides a long day of riding. On my K1200GT, i had a Sargent and it was worse than the stock seat, so for that bike I just ordered Russell seats, but that's more for longer rides. Depending on your build (I'm 6'2" 215 LBS) and riding style, IMO i would probably say the Corbin would offer more comfort for longer duration. The Sargent seats seem to be comfortable for the first 100 miles, then starts to feel very hard to me, but I attribute that to my boney butt. I know Sargent has a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee, not sure about Corbin, but i guess you could try one and if you liked it all is good, and if you didn't, return it and get the other. Not sure if that helps, lol, just my opinions.
