  • Winshield cleaning tips

Tip #1. Do not use Windex on factory BMW polycarbonate windshields.
Tip #2. Do not use RainX on said shields.
Tip #3. If you used Windex and RainX on your shield and the protective coating starts peeling off (it will if you do) , DO NOT USE CARBURETOR CLEANER to remove the rest of it.

Sincerely, in the process of getting a Cee Bailey's acrylic resin shield,

You may be able to salvage your original windshield by using NOVUS #1 plastic scratch remover, followed by NOVUS #2 fine plastic scratch remover (there's also a NOVUS #3, but I've never needed it). Use #1 per the instructions to remove the dull protective coating, then follow up with #2 to bring it to a "like new" (w/o protective coating, of course) condition. I've salvaged a 16-year old windshield with Novus #1 & #2. Also works on scratched watch crystals and helmet face shields. Just follow the instructions, and be sure to use a CLEAN soft cloth.

I got my Novus #1 & #2 @ Big #1 Yamaha-Suzuki, but Bogarts may have it, too. Of course, you can always find it on the Internet!

YMMV, but, as I said, it worked on my old windshields, my watches, and my helmet face shields.

Jamie, Yes that is why I am currently sporting the factory bikini shield, which unfortunately required changing the mounting brackets and their dang near impossible to get at bolts. Thank for the ideas on compounding and buffing it out but it is too deep. Where the coating was missing it sucked that stuff up and turned it completely white with a crystalized look to it. I would have to buff though to the other side to get it out. I feel better after telling someone.

I have used LEMON Pledge in spray can for years...on my LT that I kept cleaner than my GSA...but I still use it.... One cleaner for the whole bike and good soft cloth .

ONLY Lemon Pledge, not one of the other brands or flavors..Do not use the wipes...only the spray can model.

NOTE: in small stores or country mom pop stores you can find the smaller cans...to pack and the larger ones at any other type store.

Don, Pledge is also what the vendors use at the boat show to make them "purdy boats" shine under the lights. It is easy to wipe off fingerprints/handprints as well.

                Pledge

Pledge is also a great leather conditioner, as well; however, a little bit goes a long way. I used it in the military on spit shined boots to keep the sun from melting the shine.

I've also found that wetting a paper towel or cloth towel and laying it on your windshield for a few minutes softens the hard stuff stuck on there. This helps prevent a scratch, etc. Also, I have used the Novus product on a scratched windshield, and it is a good product. However, I wouldn't buy it from Bogarts if that was the only place that sold it! Gail

Soap & water followed by a generous coat of Plexus here. Cleans and then helps protect from UV exposure.
