  • No-Ethanol gas

For anyone that is interested, I found a station that has 93 octane gas with no ethanol. It is in Calera at the corner of CR-22 and Hwy. 31 (the Shell station). The exact address is 4454 Hwy 31 Calera, AL 35040

I'm sure they will sell it to you, it costs more than pump gas but as long as you have an approved container it should not be a problem. I have been doing it for years at several airports.

          Jim,
If my airhead purrrrred any better I couldn't stand it. I'll bet that thing does run good on 100 octane though.

There's a station where hwy 25 crosses 280 that had racing gas for the short trackers. I believe it was 97 or 98 octane. I haven't been that way for a while so I'm not sure if they still have it. There is also a station on hwy 21 just North of Montgomery that had gas in the 98 to 100 octane range. It's a large station that just opened a couple of years ago. There are about 4 or 5 octane choices at the pumps, but not all had the higest octane. I haven't checked the milage on my bike to see what the difference is when it gets ethanol, but if I run 10% ethanol in my car my milage decreases by 10%. I can't for the life of me figure out how that saves anything.

On 280 East there is a little station past Harpersville just when you get to Childersburg which advertises "100% gas, No ethanol."

Where do these vendors get the ethanol free gasoline? Doesn't it all come out of the same pipeline? Maybe Vance can assist with an answer since he has had some experience.

Hi Jamie...you are correct. The gas as it comes up the pipe is fungible. It goes to all the terminals regardless of brand. Any proprietary additives (Techron, etc) or ethanol are actually added at the terminal as the product is being loaded onto each truck. This way the product can be loaded on two consecutive trucks...one gets it ...the next does not. I think what most of this thread refers to is higher octane products that are small batch blends not coming through the pipeline. That is another reason that it is more expensive..it requires segregated handling. Virtually all of the gas and diesel in the southeast is shipped from the gulf refineries along the Colonial and Plantation pipelines. Some product is barged where close to a navigable river...but not much...

                  So there you go...lol....I'm done...lol...

The piston in my left carb was so dry from sitting for three weeks, I had to disassemble it and pull the piston out with pliers. It was covered with a white powdery corrosion. I drained all of the 92 octane with ethanol out and replaced it with the 93 octane with no ethanol from Shell. I also added 2 ounces of Marvel Mystery oil to the 5 gallon can before I filled it. I'm curious to find out if the extra lubrication will prevent the pistons from seizing up again. I will check it in a few weeks if I don't ride it before then. It actually started and ran really good on the new stuff. I didn't notice any improvement in performance, but it wasn't worse either.

I tried to purchase Aviation Fuel from Shelby County Airport, but they wouldn't sell it to me. The guy said their insurance wouldn't cover it. Sounded like he didn't want to get up from behind the desk.

Sounds like BS to me. I have never heard such a thing. I think you are right that he didn't want to pump a small amount.

                        bout $4.00 a gallon

http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/thr...-in-motorcycleI need to read my owners manual again, but, after reading this thread, I called the Enterprise Airport and talked to a guy at the terminal, Justin Nobel, I think his name was, and yes, they have no problem pumping Ursala full of 100 LL (low lead) he said he puts it in his Harley every now and then, and here's the kicker, he says every now and then because of the lead, now I remember back in the old days leaded or "regular" gas and "unleaded" gas at the gas pumps and then it finally all went to unleaded. I guess the point I'm making is the high Octane is obviously a good thing for our high performance engines, but now I'm wondering about the lead... more research to follow unless someone here already has a definitive answer.

                          Before you Buy

I re-read the fuel portion of Ursala's owners manual and it specifically mentioned unleaded fuel, stating that lead will damage... I'm sorry, "destroy" the catalytic converter. As the LL in 100LL AVGAS stands for low lead, it leads me to believe that regular use of this product in an unleaded engine only would cause damage. Further research on the internet supports this supposition. I am posting a link to a discussion topic on another website. Hope this helps. Looks like unleaded high octane race fuel is the option of choice, now, where to find it. I'd just like to find fuel with out ethanol in it in Enterprise.

Reece, That is true, your bike with the catalytic converter should not use leaded fuel. I only use it in my old R100/7 which does not have a converter.

We were out pedaling our bicycles in St Clair Co and stopped at "The Store" on Co 33, just south of where US411/Co 33 join and US411 crosses the river into Etowah Co. The sign said "Our gas contains no Ethanol" You may want to check it out! Prices were competitive with the "Name Brand" stations in the area.
