Hi all, I've got 53,000 miles on a F650CS 2005 and yep its been my work horse to and from work as well as traveling several states. Two days ago while driving to a neighboring city the right rear nut that holds the rear section of the belt housing in place on the sway bar axle started backing off. It has no cotter pin and I've looked through the owners manual and service manual but nothing describes what to look for that can cause this nut to back off. I've looked at the rest of the rear wheel for the pitch and angle of the mount and everything looks aligned. Just the 12 toothed nut on the right side keeps backing off allowing the wheel to shift to the right. I'm unable to get the nut to stay on so something is obviously putting pressure on that nut?

Not yet. I did read that in the Service Manual to use Locktight on there, but
I'm not sure if that is the only thing holding it on there. When I get it off I'll check to see if the lock washer is still in tact. Will give a try either today or later during this week. Schedule is tight. Hoping its this simple!

found problem...
Well, after a few hours of research on my end and the techs part of 10 minutes tearing into the rear axle he discovered the clip ring pin looked fine at first and after examining it more closely discovered a part of it had broken off.
He called me yesterday and after he got a picture via email from one of his fellow techs verified that the most important part of that clip ring pin is the part that broke. Its the part that slips into the axle and holds an entire assembly from doing what it was doing... sliding to the right. A $4.50 clip ring pin does all that! Amazing ! At any rate its fixed and will be back on the road again soon.
Strangest thing is unless you're used to looking at that pin you'd never know it was broken.
Thank you all for the replies and its neat to be titled Junior Member !
