  • Black Friday Special or until Nov. 26 ....

If you use Microsoft Streets and Trips .....save about 25 bucks ... and get the latest and greatest... I just downloaded and a quick look I see a new road that I know about is on the map...my quick judgement.....

So, if you running a newer laptop or PC and new operating system this will work.... I just upgraded my PC... and my old version would not load... but this one is working with the new stuff just fine....

Of course later versions work great with GPX files both in and out..

Wanted to pass this along... in Information you Can Use !
MS has a special price for Streets & Trips this weekend, only $15 till Nov 26.

Shop the latest Microsoft Store online sales and deals at a great price! Get more of what you want for less with discounts on Surface, laptops, computers, PCs, Xbox, Gaming, software, and more.

    Thanks for the information Don.

With MS Streets and Trips are you able to plan routes on your PC and then save them to Garmin's MapSource? If so, is the procedure to "save as" an MPX file?

Bob, you can use Streets and Trips to plan your route, save directly to Device in GPX format...from Streets and Trips...

Then you could connect GPS to computer and download those routes to MapSource or BaseCamp or other programs

MapSource is on the way out...no support from Garmin,... the new kid will be BaseCamp... lots of features...harder to learn (for me anyway)

        Thanks for the information Don.

I also had difficulty using BaseCamp and continue using MapSourse. Looks like I will be spending time learning how to use BaseCamp :-(.

Bob, I have been using BaseCamp for about six months or so, in a very elementary fashion! It is much different and hard for me to. Some features I like and some I dont care for, but maybe it will just take getting used to it. For simple route planning though it has worked well. I have not used Streets and Trips though and it sounds like that is pretty good too. Guess I just ain't too savvy!

            Hi Vance.

When Don mentioned that MapSource is not going to be supported by Garmin, I was unpleasantly surprised. My few sessions with Basecamp was frustrating. One of the features I use often is clicking on a route with the selection tool and moving it to another location. I haven't found the procedure to do that with Basecamp. You correctly stated that some features are better, but it appears that the features I use often are not well presented.

For $14.95 plus free two day shipping with Amazon, MS Street and Trips is worth a try.

              Hey Bob,
In short look at this in regard to "rubberband" it can be done..

              Modifying Your Route

              10. BC has a pencil with a "+" on it called Insert Tool. Select the route with the Select Tool (arrow) and a single click on the route, or click on the route label under your two waypoints on the left pane of the window. With a route selected, select the Insert tool. As you get close to the route, a dark gray line appears, drawn between the two waypoints where the rubberband will attach. Click on that route segment to activate the rubberband and click on the area where you want the rubberband.

For full article go here : http://garmin-mapsource.wikispaces.com/BaseCamp

Streets and Trips... is my favorite planning software.. when you try it..forget everything you know about MapSource or BaseCamp ...not but the "rubber band" method is there in MS S&T....
The search is quick and easy... that I really like... Find Route Planner... type in a city name and add to route... then either type in or locate on map a waypoint and add to route .... when completed you GET DIRECTION and route is created... on the Waypoint list you can add and insert or delete waypoints...

Give yourself a couple of hours with MS S&T... you will really like it...

You can save the route to your file...
Then you can export the route to GPX file with GPS connected to computer, just be sure they go to the computer GPX folder under Garmin ....
Waypoints are called Pushpins... you can create those Pushpins and export to GPS the same way... and they show up under Favorites on GPS

              Rubber Band is easy...

We need an GPS session sometime with BaseCamp and M S&T.... I have used a third product...free called Tyre.. geared to Tom Tom and Garmin products.

would be great to have place to connect laptop to large screen TV, so three or four could see what the steps where....

Is there anything like that at Montevello?

                      Sounds good Don.

I haven't checked with Terry at T4, but his shop laptop is connected to a 46 - 48 inch TV and he may be interested in being a student also. I'll touch base with him. If that doesn't work, we can do it a my house on a 50 inch screen.
