Motorcycle license testing

Anyone know what you have to do for the road test to get a motorcycle license in Shelby County?
My next door neighbor kid just got a motorcycle and wanted to know if I knew what was involved in the road test.
I've known this kid since he was two, and he's grown up watching me ride out and work on bikes for years and I've preached safety and stuff to him so I hope some of it "took".
Anyway, if anyone knows what the road test involves I'm sure he'd appreciate a heads up. I have suggested the safety course , of course.

Not sure about Shelby County, but up here in Limestone you just have to pass a written exam and if you can prove you have gone to the safety course they will sub that for the exam. Have the young man call the testing office and find out .
Wish him well and many happy and safe miles. I'm sure you have been a good example for him (of course, I'm strictly speaking of motorcycle matters -he he)

Connie, unless something has recently changed there is no road test for a motorcycle license in Alabama. If one does not have a drivers license then a written test only is required to obtain a M/C license. If one has a drivers license then the motorcycle operation is validated on the drivers license. Other states, such as Georgia, require a road test.

A road test is not required to obtain a motorcycle license in Alabama. An applicant must pass a written test that includes questions from the Motorcycle Operating Manual and the Regular Driving Manual. If your regular driving license was issued before 1990, most likely you already have a Motorcycle endorsement (check the back on your license).
