  • Tire questions 2002 R1150RT

Both tires are in need of replacing. I drive this back and forth for work. 23 miles one way. 17 miles expressway 6 miles city. I've had it for a year now and put about 6,000 miles on it. I have some questions

    1) How many miles can be expected on a set of tires?

    2) What are some recommended tires with long life for this bike.

    3) Are these special wheels that only a BMW dealer can change the tire out? Can I remove the wheels off and take it to a place to have the tires put on? (I have tools and mechanically incline)

    1. Anywhere from 6,000 to 10,000 miles depending on how you ride.

    2. I have run Metzeler Z6's and Michelin' s Pilot Road II. I get better mileage from the Michelin's.

    3. You can change your own tires with no problem. I get my tires from "Terry's Two Wheel" motorcycle shop in Pelham. Terry is a member of our club and services my bike as well as a lot of other members. I have found that his prices on tires are as good as ordering over the internet.

Thanks for the reply. Would it better to just drive there and have them installed? I'm not sure the price deference is. I'll have to look into it. I don't live that far from Pelham.

I would ride there and meet Terry. He will give you prices on the tires that you are interested in. If he does not have your size in stock, he will order and have in a couple of days. On my last set, I priced ordering from Southwest Motorsports and found that Terry was about the same price. Also it is nice to have Terry in town to take care of any problems on the bike.

Look forward to meeting you sometime.

I will either call or take a ride out there next week to check Terry out.

          Thanks again

Martin gave you excellent advise! Terry Ware and Gary Nesmith do excellent work at very reasonable prices, and I depend on their mechanical ability and advise tremendously.

Thanks again. It's nice to hear good things about a service / sales place. While were on it how is Bogarts? I live close to them but I bet to expect high prices because of a dealer?

                  update

Well I'm on my second tire purchase both from Terry Two Wheels. First was a set of Pilot ones and I got about 6,000 out of them. I could have get a little more but back tire some how got a rip on the edge of tire so replaced with pilot 2's. Great service from a great guy. Thanks for the suggestion.
