Kay Headrick fell on ice this morning and broke her back. She's at home resting after spending much of the day at the emergency room. See will see a spinal specialist on Monday. Remember her in your thoughts and prayers.

update on Kay

Talked to Kay. She is pretty much over the soreness and was able to skip pain meds today. She has restricted her activity to bed, sofa and bathroom. This way she is almost pain free. Appointment is tomorrow with the spine specialist.

Kay Headrick Update

Thank you to all my friends for the kind words and wishes. I would like to let everyone know that the spine doc gave me the uglist brace I have ever seen but it does allow me to sit up. Doc says I should will wear this new fashion accessory whenever I am out of bed for the next two weeks and then we will decide how to proceed. Vernon is taking great care of me and has taken off work for a couple of weeks to be sure I behave. I can walk with a walker and am told I by the doc to get up and move around for a few hours off and on everyday. Being wounded is annoying. Who would have thought going to the mailbox was so dangerous. Maybe I should be wearing saftey gear on future trips.

Thanks for letting us know how you are doing. It's great to hear that you are up and going, even though you are setting a new fashion trend for attire while lounging at home. Good for Vernon to take two weeks off to make sure you behave. For some reason, I am thinking that may not be enough time .

Suz'anne and I are pleased that you are starting to recover. We all hope and pray that it will be a speedy process. Back injuries are never a fun thing, and take some time to heal correctly. Take your time and enjoy being waited on by Vernon!

ALL THE GEAR - ALL THE TIME!!! So glad to hear that you're ambulatory. Very sorry to hear that you lost to the battle of gravity - sucks, doesn't it?

You've got a great nurse taking care of you - don't let him take advantage of your situation... you can't be chased around the house for awhile!

Kay Headrick Uodate

On the 15th I return to the doctor. At that visit they will take x-rays and decide how to proceed. If healing well I will continue on bed rest and wearing a brace whenever mobile. Other options include surgery or injections of J B Weld, or some medical equivalent. Either way I am looking at 8 to 10 weeks of treatment.
I am sore and have moderate pain now and then but find that pain pills make me feel worse generally so I prefer Tylenol to narcotics. I have a "six speed" adjustable bed and a silver bell that I ring for room service. (Some of you may remember Vernon won the bell at one of our Christmas parties in Cullman Armory, where he caused some disruption when he decided it was time for everyone else to get up. He had several suggestions on what he could do with his new bell and I am sure he entertained similar thought about me this week.)
All in all I am doing well. I have a warm comfortable place to recuperate. An attentive husband with a since of humor, that can get off work to care for me. We have excellent medical insurance to cover the cost. Good friends who contact us regularly with warm wishes. I would say we are blessed and thankful.

Well it is god to hear that you are doing as well as can be expected and I note your sense of humor...that is a good thing indeed! Take care of yourself and know that we are thinking of you...and tell Vernon...we know how hard he is working to make you comfortable
