Doc.jpg
Doc Dickens, close friend of my Dad's, and still with Mom and myself, was riding near Burkesville, KY. on Sat. June 15th when a deer came running into him.
Doc will certainly be remembered by those who attend the Burkesville (Nashville club's) European Riders rally.
Doc led rides at that rally and knows those roads very well, and led riders to Trooper Island.
Doc is the most laid back, soft spoken, big hearted man you could ever want to have as a friend.
Stacey of the Tourism board in Burkesville (and mostly visible at the rally getting ready for our steak dinner and keeping things on hand that are needed), was instrumental in finding out where he was and the early news.
He was flown to University of Louisville hospital. By the 20th he was off the ventilator and on a C-Pap machine, and responding to verbal commands.
By the 21st (Friday) he was out of ICU, breathing on his own and using the TV remote. He does remember things and his brain functions are good.
He has suffered the following.
Brain hemorrhage
Scull fractures - both sides
Eye sockets - both fractured
Collar bone broken
Knee cap busted
4 ribs broken
Lots of road rash
There is a benefit being put together on July 13th at noon in Burkesville, KY to help Doc since his medical expenses will be ongoing and huge.
People are bringing food and most importantly a jar will be passed for donations.
This will be a long long recovery for Doc.
Should you have any other ideas that might easily help in donations please let me know.
Please send Doc a card or note to help lift his spirits and let him know that the BMW community is there for him
