Hey Bob
I just heard tonight after Tom visited him, that they got him up to sit on the side of the bed for a few minutes. He is still on the respirator, and they are trying to wean him off that. He is communicating by moving his hands and feet when they ask him questions.
I have a little hope that this is a sign that he will make it, and a lot of faith that he will. He will have a long recovery when he gets out of the hospital.
You can pass this on to your folks if you don't mind. I appreciate your concern, and keeping in touch.

The news is better. Here is the latest update from Polly:
Lee still has the Trach so until they take that out, he is still in for more time in the hospital. He walked a few steps down the hall a couple of days ago, but it wore him out.
He is off the ventilator now, as of today, and he is breathing on his own. That is a great sign he is improving. He is alert and able to carry on a conversation. Things are really looking up for him now. I'm hoping that in a few days he will be off the Tracheotomy and that will be a step closer to him being able to get out of ICU and maybe even out of the hospital soon.
We still aren't visiting him, just his family.
Thanks for keeping him in your prayers. That's about all we can do at this point.

This update just in from my X sister in law who lives in Centerville:
Hey Bob,
I saw on Facebook that Lee Waggoner has been moved to Kindred Hospital, 1412 County Hospital Road, Nashville, Tn. 37218. His phone number is 1-615-687-2600
If anyone visits, he may be listed as F. Lee Waggoner or Franklin Lee Waggoner.
This was posted on the Methodist Church page which said he can talk some but not a lot because he still has the trach. His spirits are pretty low so I am sure he could use a card or visit.
I just found this out tonight and am sending the information to you and if your buddies don't have it, you can share.

Finally some good news for Lee. Here is the latest update from Centerville:
I just found some more information about Lee. Two of his friends from Centerville had been to visit with him and she posted this on the
Centerville United Methodist Church site. I will try to give you her entire message.
The therapist had been walking Lee without a walker...slowly but on his own. He recognizes everyone and is able to talk. He was able
to eat a little oatmeal this morning and was going to try some mashed potatoes for lunch. If he is able to eat without mishap for the
next couple of days, the feeding tube will be removed. The trache will come out she thinks within the next twentyfour hours. He is
breathing on his own entirely.
Lee does not remember anything from 3 days before he was life flighed until right when he was leaving Vanderbilt a week ago so
from his perspective, he has just woke up feeling crappy, hardly able to walk, unspeakably weak, with terrible pain in his right arm,
an abdominal feeding tube and a valve in his throat. He is understandably a little anxious and depressed. He has no concept of how
close he came to death within the last five weeks. She said she thought it was good for him to see his friends, especially to hear
how far he has come and how good he is doing. She could not tell that he has lost any cognitive function other than short term
memory issues. He has great word retrieval and can express what he is thinking and feeling.
It sounds as if he is much improved but with a long way to go before being completely healed. You can pass this information on
to your friends and hopefully some of those in the Nashville area will be able to visit with him.
I will continue to keep you updated as the information becomes available.

Great news indeed Bob! Thanks for posting this. It is so good to hear that he is improving. Sure he has a long way to go..but he has really come so far from where he was. We will surely keep him in our prayers.

I may not be here for a long time...but I am here for a good time!
I emailed Lee recently to find out how he's doing. Here is his reply:
Hey Bob,
Good to hear from you. I'm doing way better. I've been staying at my girlfriend's house in Bellevue. We go walking almost everyday. I'm slowly getting my strength back but it still feels like it's going to be a long road. I hope to get back on the bike by Summer. I'm planning on going to Barbers so if I don't see you in Burkesville I will see you there. Tell every one hello. See you soon
