  • Andy Crashed on his Bike Wednesdeay

I just got a call from Tommy Crawford saying that Andy crashed his bike on Sicard Hollow Road last Wednesday morning while on the way to work . He has a compound fracture (femur), multiple fractures in his spine and he suffered a concussion. Thankfully, he is not paralyzed. Some cyclists, one of which is a medic, stopped to help. He is at UAB. Phone # 996-9219. If I get more information when I talk to Glen, I'll update this post. Also, Kathy will call his wife to find out what we can do to help.

Kathy talked to Andy's wife, Emily. She said Andy is in a lot of pain and expects to be in hospital for three weeks.

I talked with Glen today. They've inserted a rod in Andy's fractured leg. Glen said that Andy didn't mention being in as much pain, and was starting to talk about how sore he was. I think that's a good sign. Glen also said that Andy may be moving to a different room soon, possibly beginning some rehab.

Thoughts and Prayers for Andy are still appreciated!

Thanks for the your update Jack. A compound fracture of a femur would definitely make me sore.

It's good news that he may be moving to another room and may be ready to start rehab.

Has anyone heard anything further about Andy? Is he still in the hospital?

Not many new details. He is still in hospital. A neighbor told Kathy that he wasn't wearing his protective gear and has serious road rash. I was very surprised to hear that, because every time I have seen Andy riding his bike, he is wearing his gear. I'm planning to go the his and Glen's shop tomorrow and will get more information.
