  • Jim Pippin has passed - Today about 12:20

Jim Pippin passed today around 12:20.

Jim Pippin was an early and long time member of our club. He suffered from celiac disease which had devastated his health for the last several years. Those of you who knew him might want to pass the information on to any others you might know that knew him. He was a good guy to me and to many others, and helped Phillip and Leslie out at the campground a lot.

There was a period of time up at their campground, when some folks just thought he was a crusty old drunk, but that was when Jim was suffering from celiac disease and was undiagnosed and it caused those symptoms and much pain and sickness. So for some of you, if you remember him from that, just know Jim was not that at all. He would do anything for anybody, and did.... all the time.

I mention this about him because it was just last weekend that some members were speaking about him (not knowing who he was) and how mean he was when they went to Blueridge campground. I too remembered those days and knew that was when he was sick and not himself and the doctors had not figured out what was wrong with him. Those actions were symptoms - and none of us who knew him and cared about him, knew that at the time. At that time last weekend, I chose not to go into an explanation because he was a good friend and it sort of hurt to know that folks didn't know the real Jim.

    I'll miss him.

So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He was a dear friend of Phillip and myself traveling on several trips and to rallies in past years before the celiac disease hit. He was a member of this club on and off for 31 years and enjoyed visiting with him last year at the Cheaha club meeting. Rest in peace, Jim.

I heard about Jim's passing this past week from Bob Steber . Jim was really a prince of a fellow who would do anything for a friend . He was one of the first individuals who befriended me when I joined the club in '87 . I always looked him up when passing through Ft. Bragg on my Army sojourns and he was always gracious and welcoming . I shall miss him .

Phillip Johnson has told me that it seems that Jim Pippin wanted to be creamated and his ashes spread at Blue Ridge. So as far as we know right now, there will be a memorial at our club meeting up there next weekend. If I hear anything more I will post it. I look forward to being there to remember Jim with the BMW family in one of his favorite places.
