This is sad news. The hotel opened in October under new owners, but caught fire and was totally destroyed. Here are the details.

Wow, sorry to hear this for sure. I am glad that I had the chance to eat there. Come to think of it...without the ABEES program...I would have likely missed this opportunity!
First the Porch House now this...dang Bob, maybe we need to get into the fried chicken business...looks like there is an opening for a new "Best We Ever Had" place!Current Bikes

A rare opportunity it was to enjoy such a fine place and a great meal. I still rate their fried chicken as the best there was in Alabama, maybe the country. I also did not know about the Talisi until it was recommended for our ABEES challenge.
Not only did we loose a great eatery, we also lost a landmark full of period antiques and the superman telephone booth.
I am looking for a new place for "the best if ever had fired chicken" and it is going to be a difficult job to find one. Right now, Jacksons Fried Chicken in Camden comes close. The Porter House in Oxfored is also a contender and so is Publix Grocery Stores believe it or not.Last edited by R90srider; 11-30-2009, 01:59 PM.Bob Steber

Bob, if you remember I was the one to recommend Talisi Hotel for the ABEES list as I had discovered it through Terry Parsons, et.al. (GoldWingers) that said it was the best in Alabama. But now that it is gone, in my humble opinion Publix deli has the best fried chicken in Alabama, hands down!Jamie

Thanks for the reminder and good recommendation. Also, thanks for sending me the information about the Hotel Talisi being destroyed this morning.
Publix deli is outstanding for sure and convenient too.
I still have an open mind and will make it a mission next year to track down great fried chicken places in Alabama and close by states to find the best one. Publix, Jackson's and Porter House are strong contenders.
If you and Malvene are out and about, how about finding another good one. Although, it's doubtful there will be another one as good at the Talisi or Porch House.Last edited by R90srider; 11-30-2009, 03:28 PM.Bob Steber

Bob, I have not tried it but I have some feedback that Cracker Barrel's Sunday Fried Chicken is pretty good. Again, I have not tried it and am hesitant to recommend it. It is only available at lunch on Sundays. Malvene and I plan to try it on the way home from the Christmas party. If we do I will report my rating. I do so love fried chicken (as well as fried okra).Jamie

Jim.
I sure did like the fried chicken at the Porch House, even though they used a little bit of Accent to enhance the flavor. Life is made much better by not going through it blandly
