  • Ride to NE Alabama to visit the new ABEES eatery.

Martin and I had a fun ABEES ride to NE Alabama yesterday to visit the new ABEES eatery in Hammondville; the Sunrise Cafe. Our ride was 350 miles and we were on the road for 10 hours including many stops to enjoy the ABEES points and favorite rides. We checked off 22 places and 4 favorite rides along the way.

One of the places we visited was a first for me. Orbix Glass was a wonderful place near the Little River Canyon Preserve. On display and for sale there, you will see some beautiful examples of very high quality hand blown glass objects. They specialize in pitchers, but there are many other items there also. When we arrived, the artists had just closed their studio, so we couldn't see them making the objects. Next time I will arrive earlier.

Here are some photos. Unfortunately my photos at Orbix did not take.

Bob, you and Martin are making all of the ABEES points. Leave some for the rest of us. Good pictures, thanks for posting them.

      Hey Gator.

Don't worry. There are enough places to see and eateries to enjoy to last a lifetime. The ride there and back was the highlight of the trip because of the fantastic roads and scenery in NE Alabama, especially the Little River Rim road.

Malvene and I did 275 miles yesterday in NE Alabama and checked off 15 ABEES locations and two favorite rides; and it seems we may not have visited any of the places that Bob and Martin did. Of course that is entirely possible due to 675 locations being listed throughout the state.

We had a terrific lunch at Wintzell's in Guntersville. It was difficult to finish the day after that. Sorry, we didn't have time for photos.

            Hey Jamie.

Sounds like you and Malvene had a good ride. Jim Dubick and I went to Wentzells last year (my first visit) and the food there is excellent. So is the view of Lake Guntersville.

15 checkoffs and two favorite rides is a good day. I think y'all are going to be good challengers to Martin for the top spot on the list.
