  • 2012 Mileage ...

As the new Travel Director for the club, - I'd like to keep tracking the annual mileage of all of our members. I will get with Martin and have him forward to me the ending 2011 mileage of everyone who participated last year. If you did not participate in last years mileage program, - please forward to me your best honest estimate of your odometer reading on 01 January 2012 at travel@bmwmoal.org

Last years goal was a cumulative total of 250,000 miles, - and we easily smashed that with over 400,000 miles. The goal this year is to reach 500,000 miles, - so it will take a little more effort by the group as a whole to add those few extra miles to reach our goal.

I would like to publish in the newsletter where everyone stands, so that if you're trying to rack up a few more miles than your buddy, you will know what everyone's mileage is. Please submit your mileage to me each month, any time between the moment you arrive at the monthly meeting, and the Friday after the monthly meeting. ... If we start to have a problem with folks failing to submit their monthly odometer reading, - we might have to initiate a penalty loss of mileage for those who repeatedly fail to submit their mileage in a timely manner.

Good luck everyone, - and I'll see y'all on the road!

      2011 mileage contest facts ???

I do not have all of that info, as Martin was the one who had collected that. I can tell you that I was 6th out of 36 participants with 19,380 miles added to my odometer in 2011. You should be able to judge where you might have placed from my numbers. (I want to say you were in the top three, but I can not guarantee that I am correct.) Martin has framed certificates for everyone, and if you weren't at the annual business meeting at Montevallo about a week ago, - I'm sure he'll get your award to you sooner or later.

Greg, the list will be in the next newsletter. You were #2 with just over 23,000 miles.

Since these little, all in fun contests are just that, and since we have always been on an honor system here, I have a problem with being "penalized" for ANYTHING! I do not want to submit my mileage each month, simply because it is no one elses business how much I ride or when. I have NO problem submitting my beginning odometer reading for 2012 and again at the end of the year, but I will not submit each month. If this isn't acceptable, that is OK, I'll be riding the same and enjoying it just as much. This isn't the Army, and I march to my own drum . Lets keep this FUN... Gail

I'm trying to figure out how to send this months reminder out right now. I'm up to doing my part to keep score and post that info in the newsletter, but it will take timely submission of each persons odometer info to insure that each months rankings are accurate when I submit them.

Gail ... this is in fact "for fun" - but just like if we as a group were having a fun day with sack races, and three-legged races, etc., then everyone would be able to see who was ahead, and then judge how much effort they would need to put forth to try and beat whomever is at the top. If you choose to not participate by refusing to send in your monthly total, then that is your prerogative. If in a real world fun day you went somewhere else and did your own sack race and then turned in your time at the end, - that time would not be counted, because you did not participate with everyone else in the Club. I'm not trying to get all nazi gestapo about this, - I am only asking that those that chose to participate, please submit your miles ridden at the end of each month so that the tally and rankings that I intend to post in the newsletter are factually accurate.
