Jim and Susan Dubick felt like taking advantage of a beautiful November day to go for a ride and have lunch at Charlie B's in Oneonta. Jim called to see if I would like to join them. Quickly clearing my holiday honey-do list, I accepted the invitation and planned to meet them the next morning at Charlie B's. While in Oneonta, we decided that it would be fun to see the wonderful old covered bridges that are close by and that is what we did.
Saturday, 11/24 was a wonderful, sunny, cool crisp day for riding. The Fall foliage was fading, but it still made for good views, and the little country roads are a lot of fun to ride. There are three covered bridges near Oneonta (two of which are open for vehicle crossings) and shouldn't be missed: The Horton's Mill Bridge (1934) the Easley Covered Bridge (1927) and the Swann Covered Bridge (1933)
For those of you that have not been to Charlie B's, you have missed an great epicurean experience. For $7.50 including tax you can select from 4 or 5 meat dishes and at least 8 fresh vegetables. There is also a great salad bar and usually you will find at least one soup selection. After enjoying your meal, be sure to save room for dessert. Their selection is unbelievable with cobbler & soft ice cream, at least six different cakes and a few pie choices. Beverages are also included. The food quality is excellent and some of the meat dishes are gourmet. Our meal Saturday included shrimp & grits which is a highlight at Highlands, one of Birmingham's greatest restaurants.
