This year's ABEES extreme challenge is a 1267 mile motorcycle ride around the periphery of the state boundary without going into an adjoining state. The challenge is to make this ride in under 48 hours. For those who meet the challenge, you will be awarded 10 bonus tickets in the drawing for a new Olympic riding jacket to be given by Bogarts. To qualify for the drawing you will have to be a member of the BMWMOAL and have completed at least 20 checkoffs from the ABEES Guide.
Thanks to Steve Schuckman, modifications have been made to this site's home page. The modification is a new menu item named "Routes." The Routes menu has several files for downloading, including an information sheet, a turn-by-turn guide and gps files about the all-around Alabama challenge.
There are two sets of GPS files. There is a set (both Garmin .gdb and a gps exchange format .gpx) which has the ride in one route with over 200 waypoints. There is another set, both .gdb and .gpx which has the ride broken down into five routes. This last set should allow loading the entire route into GPSes which may have limitations on the number of waypoints in a route.
If you decide to do the challenge, you may want to modify one of the five routes to make the starting point near your home.
Check it out and I encourage you to try the challenge. If you don't want to do the challenge, go ahead and download the five routes file and ride any of those routes at your pace. I think you will find some fun riding there.
