  • Ride to Sell...Well A Ride Anyway!

Taking my cue from the original "riding salesman" Martin Benson, I decided to enjoy the beautiful day today and ride down to Montgomery to look at a job prospect. Because I got started late, I blasted down the slab while carefully calculating my return route .
I made the call...maybe something will come of it, but I am ready for the return trip. I had packed my trusty ABEES Guide so after a quick reference I headed for Wetumpka to knock off the points there. Up 231 to Ft. Toulouse and then into town for the courthouse, bridge, old calaboose and house on the hill. It was about lunch time so Our Place was my target..closed. Therefore I headed up 231 to Rockford where I visited the Coosa County courthouse and the old jail museum..closed. However, the ride up 231 today was fantastic! This is a fun road and virtually no traffic today. From Rockford I headed across AL 22 toward Clanton..ah hah..a BBQ at Peach Park will squelch my hunger! This is another great ride almost no traffic except for a couple log trucks that were quickly "Beemerized" by Buster my trusty steed. I blow up 31 and get ready to enter the parking lot at Peach Park...CLOSED! Thats it..I am across the street to McDonald's. I got to get into the office and tie up the loose ends today cause I'm going cruisin'!
Back up 65 and I am in the office for the afternoon. So under the disguise of sellin' I have had a great ride AND knocked off some more of those valuable ABEES points! I am getting started on earning that $2500 jacket!

A great day for a ride Puddin. Looks like the bar is going to be raised this year. You, Gary and Martin are getting with it.

Your $2,500 jacket may be under estimated.

Gary N. and I did a re-con run for the Nauvoo ride today and you should know that Naggy II found some good GS roads. Problem is, we don't need no stinkin GS roads for this ride. Gary and I both decided to cut the Coon Dog Cemetery, because it would make for too long of a day. We will do Natural Bridge and Dismals Wonder Gardens.

Gene McDaniel at the Old Harbin Hotel is getting ready for us. He had a load of fire wood delivered today. Said he was going to put a notice (warning) in the local paper that bikers are taking over their town. A local cop came by and said he would keep an eye on us and Gary asked him which would be the best street for drag racing. The street in front of the Hotel was selected.

I've done 231 south to Montgomery from 280. It was a nice ride. It's not a bad stretch of road.

Way to go Vance. It sure is nice to be able to what you like and still earn a little money.

I am on my way to Terry Ware's to pick up the bike. He is finished with the 72,000 mile service. Sure did miss it this week.

Got the bike. Terry did a great job on the service. Runs great. Such a great day for riding. Left Terry's and went up to Miss Myra's BBQ for lunch. Then out Rex Lane and over the mountain on 25 to 20 Dreams. They just wandered back home. Picked up three ABEES points and a fun afternoon.

            Drag racing in Nauvoo

Oh boy we have been sanctioned for drag racing in Nauvoo. I'm gonna brang my rope. Thinking of a couple of "damned yankees" I might drag through the streets. Them thar yankees need to know thar ain't no hate crime laws in 'Bama. Hell, we might even get promoted in the state militia.
