  • Nashville & Natchez Trace

Tom Sherrill, owner of Kermit Chair, has donated a chair for our mileage contest. Well not to miss an opportunity to ride, I rode up to Nashville to get the chair. Here are some pictures of the ride.

Lunch was to be here on Tuesday, but was closed. I will take Bob's word that they have good food.

The Parthenon stands proudly as the centerpiece of Centennial Park, Nashville's premier urban park. The re-creation of the 42-foot statue Athena is the focus of the Parthenon just as it was in ancient Greece. The building and the Athena statue are both full-scale replicas of the Athenian originals.

Originally built for Tennessee's 1897 Centennial Exposition, this replica of the original Parthenon in Athens serves as a monument to what is considered the pinnacle of classical architecture. The plaster replicas of the Parthenon Marbles found in the Naos are direct casts of the original sculptures which adorned the pediments of the Athenian Parthenon, dating back to 438 B.C. The originals of these powerful fragments are housed in the British Museum in London.

    Hey Martin.

You did good getting Tom to donate one of his chairs. Thank you.

Too bad the old country store was closed. The food is good. But, you found another excellent eatery at Lovelace's. They have some of the best Tennessee country ham I have ever had . Your photo of the arch bridge over the Trace is excellent. I have been there many times and have never seen the shadow.

          Great photos Martin.
I got married at the Parthenon in Nashville (it cost a whole $25 to rent the garden area), and the reception was at the Holiday Inn across the street where I worked as a Bartender, my friends and I ate at Lovelesses cafe ALL the time, and lived in Franklin, TN about 10 miles from that arched bridge at the Natchez Trace. (Moms still does) Those were my early motorcycle days riding grounds (and more), for sure. Most of them on a Yamaha Twin jet 100 and a Honda 160. Pics sure bring back memories of those days and riding around with Dad and by myself. Heck that was high school days and I was the only girl with a motorcycle, and I only remember two other guys who rode to school. So riding alone was pretty much the standard except when Dad went too. All that area outside of Franklin is WONDERFUL bike roads.

...and few years before that (1968-70) I was a student at a Private College (Morturary College) across the street from the Parthenon, back in those days it was a safe place to spend the day... I worked at one of the local funeral homes while I was a student...we would borrow the limo on Sunday morning and head down to Loveless for breakfast back then, if we had saved our money... (got a few stories about taking the LIMO out)
Nashville was cool town, lot of great memories about my time in Nashville. No motorcycle, no car, hitchhiking was safe then too!
