First weekend at home in over six weeks. Chores done so brother Lee and I decided to take a ride Sunday. Our first stop was the Double Springs as he had never visited the Dual Destiny statue there. So we headed up AL269 through Parrish and into Jasper. That ride up 9th Ave is really nice as it is lined with some beautiful homes and manicured lawns. We headed up AL195 into Double Springs and after a quick stop at the statue headed up AL33 through the Bankhead Forest. We made a quick stop by the Pine Torch church (and Martin, we even took the loop back to AL33 that includes about 2.5 miles of dirt road). First time I have actually done this and it is a nice ride through there!
At the north end of our ride we ate lunch at Mel's Steakhouse located at the stockyard in Moulton. I have ridden by this place for 30 years or so and never eaten there...and it was pretty good! So the ride home took us down backroads across Smith Lake through Crane Hill with lloming thunder storms and vivid vertical lightning! Once we made it to Mount Olive we took the braved the interstate and pouring rain to make it safely back home.
Overall a great ride of a little over 250 miles!
