  • From Cajun Pawn Stars to pork rinds

Sometimes the best ride is the one you don't plan too much. Paul & I are meandering thru southwestern Miss. and Louisiana this weekend. Our first stop was for lunch yesterday at The Tomato Place, just south of Vicksburg. What an unusual place, to say the least. You can either dine outside, or sit anywhere you can find a spot, where a tomato sandwich is their speciality. Paul had to move a microwave oven from the chair before he could sit down. They sell shelled pecans, big sacks of raw peanuts, boiled pnuts, fresh baked bread, and hats...I am sure other things too, but that is all I could see. Places like this can only be found in Miss. From there we ended up in Alexandria, Louisiana at Silver Dollar Pawn, where they film Cajun Pawn Stars. We talked to "Big Daddy" Jimmy Deramus, who is the owner & star of the show, for over an hour. What a likeable character and very interesting man. We left Alexandria this morning and headed back to Natchez,MS where we ate lunch at The Donut Shop. They also have hot tamales, and they are good. The cinnamon roll and Bavarian cream pastry was heavenly! On from there to Woodville, MS, where I bought a bag of the absolute best fried pork skins I have ever eaten. This was at Fatty's, and it was named appropriately. Of course you have to be a real southerner to know this is fine dining. Tonight we are in McComb, MS and watching Ole Miss & LSU. It couldn't have been a better trip if it had been planned. The only change I would make is I would have bought two bags of Fatty's pork skins! 006.jpg001.jpg004.jpg003.jpg001.jpg004.jpg007.jpg008.jpg009.jpgGail

ha ha you are right Gail! Sometimes the best rides are when you let the bike choose the route! You are certainly putting meaning to the term "adventure touring"!! Ya'll ride safe and have fun...(and I can tell you are!)

Now I'm hungry for donuts and hot tamales. Sounds like a great ride. Next time in Natchez stop at Fat Mama's Tamales. Good food.
