  • How Lucky We Are Here in Alabama

I'm sure many of you are returning as I am from one of the most perfect days of riding we've had in couple of months (no humidity!). Jill & I went from our house in Chelsea (280 & Hwy 43) north and east to Logan Martin Dam, then over to the Kymulga Grist Mill & Covered Bridge. Jill is from Sylacauga and I have driven by the sign for that place countless times over the years & had never been. We got the full tour and history then took our time walking over the covered bridge which leads to a nature trail near a creek. It was one of those moments when you look up and all around and are truly thankful to be here! We picked up some yellow grits from the (very) country store, chatted for a while and made our way down the road.

From there we found our way over to the Old Mill Restaurant and covered bridge. We got there right at five in time for the Saturday night buffet. We hadn't eaten since early breakfast so this just HIT THE SPOT! Another fantastic place nestled in a pastoral setting right on a bend in the river and the covered bridge hanging in there fighting against the years and vines.

I know a lot of you have done a version of this ride from 29 Dreams to Cheaha, but nonetheless, when I do a search & figure out how to post pics I'll share our day.

I'd love to hear about some of the rides you all have taken recently.

You are right Chris. I have just completed my update of my ABEES stops so far this year. Gotten kind of lazy about doing the updates!

The trip today took us down to Montevallo, Centerville and over to Tuscaloosa. This are is rich with all kinds of interesting stops! And it was a fantastic day for a ride!

Last weekend I was up in Indiana and made an Iron Butt loop around lake Michigan! That was 1126 miles in 23 hours and some change and highlites included a look at the western shore of Michigan and a ride across the BIG Mac bridge! Awesome ride!!

It does feel good to get out and ride!! Lokin forward to next weekend and BB&B!!!

Now THAT's a ride! I'm from Ann Arbor Michigan and back in '95 I made a similar trip (though unfortunately NOT on two wheels) for a backpacking trip in the Porcupine Mountains on the Western side of the Upper Peninsula. I can't wait to someday do the trip you just did. It may be even more beautiful once the leaves start changing a bit. Though way up there, they may be starting to get color already.

I love hearing/reading about everyone's trips! Thanks for sharing.
