  • Ride to Eldridge Alabama ...

Once again it's time for the Ride to Eldridge, Alabama. Always the First Saturday in December, so this year it will fall on December 4, 2010, about noon we will again furnish a meal to all that attend.

Also on Friday night December 3, 2010, we will furnish a dinner for all long distance riders and supporters. Time and place will be announced later.

The host hotel this year is in Jasper, Alabama.. Super 8, has new remodeled rooms with double beds and special rate...just ask for the Eldridge Children Home rate or use my name. If you want to add you name to this post, maybe few of you can share rooms as well.

    Link to Super 8 info:
Book your next stay at Super 8 by Wyndham hotels, offering comfortable rooms, convenient locations, free WiFi, and more. Get the lowest price when you book direct.

Next door is a breakfast cafe for early full breakfast on Saturday morning or the Motel will offer up the usual coffee and continental type breakfast.

For more information about Eldridge Children's Home, our benefit, benefit team and scholarships for the children log on to this site:

Many of you have already donated this year via the Penny a Mile Challenge on my motorcycle ride from Eldridge to the Arctic Circle...I again thank you and invite you to come and see how your donations are used to benefit these children.

I look forward to seeing you at Eldridge....

I am looking forward to this event as I do every year! I will put together a ride from the Pelham area on Saturday morning for those who are interested in riding up. We will have plenty of time to enjoy the festivities and will be back in time to make the Christmas Party Saturday night that will be in Leeds this year. Make your plans now to attend this great event.

As in previous years, I will also be glad to take your doation to the home on Saturday. I will create an envelope for our club and put all items into it and donate as a club. You can send your donation in a sealed envelope to me (or give it to me between now and then). I will include all those in the club envelope for tabulation by the staff at the home. Of course if you prefer, send your donation directly to the Eldridge Children's Home. It doesn't matter how much or how little that is totally up to you...the main thing is that together we can make a difference and support the home.

I hope you will ride with us...or if coming from another area more convenient, lead a group! All roads lead to Eldridge!!

I plan on riding up as usual with Steve Odom / Greg Clark group which meets in front of Steve's Berean Book Store in Parkland Shopping center. Located on Highway 118 (the former 78 Highway) on the Western end of Jasper, last redlight on 118 going West from Birmingham, there is a KFC on the North side of the Road and a Captain D's on the Side. We usually begin forming up around 900AM and wait on the group from Sumiton to come in before we leave. This will be real close to the Super 8 if you want to come up and ride with this group. There are quite a few open pipe bikes and Choppers usually riding but I have found it to be a very safe ride. We usually have a police escort all the way up so the speeds are moderate.

Places to eat for the "out of towners"

        Don,
There is a BBQ restaurant just outside of Carbon Hill, Alabama that is close to Eldridge. It is called Daddy-O's. Some of the best BBQ around. It is located on a back road called Buster Armstrong Road. I can show you how to get there; however, it is difficult to verbally tell someone how to get there. For what it is worth, if you are travelling West on HW 118, at the western edge of Carbon Hill where the four lane road ends and goes back to two lanes, take a left turn and cross the RR tracks. Proceed approx 1/4 Mile and turn right at the old National Guard Armory. This takes you past the fish hatchery. Continue approx 2-3 miles and Buster Armstrong Road intersects from the right. Turn right on to Buster Armstrong Road and go approx 1/4 mile. The restaurant is on the left. The food is worth the ride.

Know right where that is....and good BBQ!

Also another BBQ place open at Wayside, intersection of State Hwy 107 and county road 36, about four miles south of Guin on 107 (a great road).

Called the Waysider, Ribs on weekend. New store and cafe, big front porch.

Gene McDaniel at Nauvoo has asked me to tell everyone going to Eldridge that there will be a Christmas parade in Nauvoo at 10:00am on December 4th. Gene is inviting our club members to leave early and stop by there before going to Eldridge. Sounds like a good time.

I would like to get a head count for the ride on Saturday...who will be going?

I have heard from T. Ware and Greg Turp (along with his significant other ) so far.

                      surely more can go???

Going to have special parking for the club, on the North end of the Pavilion on the concrete pad, watch for sign or follow Vance.

Looking forward to seeing some BMWs there..thanks for your support.
