  • Barbers rides

    Dear Barber Museum Members,

The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum would like you to join us in welcoming David Haynes, author of Motorcycling Alabama: 50 Ride Loops through the Heart of Dixie, as he brings the Roll-Out Ride to seven Alabama cities, over three days, April 28-30. The ride begins in Blount Springs, where the author is based and has a photography studio. About Bikes will host the first stop, and they will end day one here at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum. Day two of the ride will begin at Little Professor Bookstore in Homewood. From there the ride rolls into Montevallo with a bike safety demo at the Motorcycle Safety Program. Day two will end with a stop at T-Town Motorsports in Tuscaloosa, AL. The ride will pick up on day three will pick up at Goat Hill Museum Store in Montgomery. Gnu’s Room Bookstore will host the final stop, along with Viper Motorsports, in Auburn. The author will have his two trusty golden retrievers riding in his sidecar along the entire tour, and will demonstrate how to safely secure your dog into a sidecar at each stop along the way.

The Barber Museum cosponsored Motorcycling Alabama and is featured in the book. Haynes brings Alabama to life in a way motorcycle enthusiasts will love. It is the first book to showcase Alabama state byways from a motorcycle perspective. It is a much-needed guidebook, with fifty ride loops of between seventy-five and a hundred and fifty miles in length throughout every region of the state. There are both street bike and dual-sport rides in this handy guide, which is designed to fit in a biker’s tank bag. Also included are detailed, color-coded maps of the routes and turn-by-turn directions. The companion website, motorcyclingalabama.info, offers sample rides and downloadable GPS codes for all fifty rides, and hosts an author blog and community forum, including alternate routes for any road closures found on the loops.

The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum would like you to join us for a small reception and book signing during the Roll-Out Ride’s stop here at the Museum, April 28 from 4-6pm. There will be light hors’ devours and we will have 100 books on hand in the Museum store for purchase and have David sign. Museum members, remember to bring your membership card for a 10% discount! If you would like to attend, please R.S.V.P. to bvmm@barbermuseum.org.

    Have a great weekend!
