  • Thursday Evening @ On Tap 11/10/11

Come try out On Tap tonight. This is "week 2" of the evaluation period, and comments are solicited --is this a possible place for our Thursday Night Non-Meetings in Birmingham? I'd love to find that perfect place where the club can come and shoot the breeze w/o a meeting, just have fun again (like the club's old days @ Jim'N'Nick's in Hoover).

On Tap -- Lakeview is located @ 737 29th Street South, Birmingham, AL 35233-2809. Their telephone number is (205) 320-1225.

Hope to see some folks there tonight

Here's the report from my first visit to On Tap in years --
      1) Fairly easy to get to. I can get from my house near the Colonnades to O-T in about 15 minutes
      2) Great selection of beer! And Thursday night has reasonable prices and lots on tap.
      3) Good food menu, and the food we tried wasn't bad, either. Prices were typical for a sports bar.

      Now for the negatives --
      1) Parking is non-existent. Very small parking lot that was completely full @ 5:30pm. And was still full when we left @ 6:30pm
      2) Inside has few large tables where more than 4 people could sit/talk
      3) Outside tables were going, but 48 degF says go inside, where it was crowded and noisy.
      4) Very smoky tonight. (This last may not be a problem for some members, for others, like my wife and myself -- it's not a pleasant environment).

We won't be going back to On Tap anytime soon.

Surely there is a place in metro Birmingham where there's ample parking, a nice menu, an area where smoking isn't an issue (for those who smoke and those who don't), and there are tables where a group can sit/talk for awhile.

      The search continues.

thanks Jack...I just didn't make it....one of my concerns is getting there from down here in N Shelby Cty...that part of town is really hard to reach from here. I too would not be able to put up with the smoke...and if it is noisy when inside...(I am not surprised at this either) then that makes me recall why we left Jim & Nicks...just too crowded and noisy inside....
Let's keep looking...but Brother Zekes did not seem too bad to me! Others should weigh in!!

How about Jim and Nicks somewhere else? I have been to the one in Trussville and down 280 and the one on Oxmoor road. I don't remember if the one on Oxmoor has outside seating though. The other two have ample outside seating. But they all have good food and ample parking and are not as busy as the one at the Galeria.
