Thanks Don, always a great event! Several members and I have ridden up on Saturday for the event. I will be leading a ride again this year too. This will be my ninth time attending and I think I have taken a different route each time! My ride will leave from the Pelham / Helena area. Now I have to actually plan it but in the past we have done breakfast before the start or just ridden straight up the home. If you are interested in riding again this year post here or let me know. I would like to get a good group together. It is always a fun time and this year we don't have to be concerned about getting back in time for the Christmas party!

As Don says, I guarantee you will leave with a full belly and warm heart! Let's ride!

Hey folks, I beat the free breakfast offer... If you ride over on Friday Afternoon to Eldridge Children Home...Our benefit team will furnish dinner at 7 PM...we have a host motel...Super 8 in Jasper...(20 miles away) but you have to come back on Saturday for the free lunch at noon... Just Ride IN...you don't have to ride in escorted ride....I don't... The Friday Night deal... I need a solid head count... Prime Rib will be furnished and cooked by Ironhorse Lodge, sweet potatoes, baked potatoes, salad, drinks, sweet potato pies fresh from Vardarman MS...plus more desserts. Now if you stay at the Super 8, I will furnish transportation from the Motel to ECH...for dinner..no gearing back up and riding in the dark... and will return you.... There you will join about 50 other Long Distance riders (mostly on BMWs) who will be staying at Super 8......
so there you have it... two free meals and transportation....I have block of room...ask for Eldridge Children Home rate... 42-50 depends on type room...

Oh, the Super 8 has a hot breakfast that is included and there is Grill next door for the much heavier breakfast....but remember you eating again about 11 at the home..

                            Hello Riders!
It is that time again! The first Saturday in December…and that means the annual ride to the Eldridge Children’s Home in Eldridge, AL. This is the 10th annual toy run that benefits the home and their largest single fund raiser of the year. There will be riders from all over the country in attendance and support of the home again this year. I hope you will make plans to be a part of it too!

Rides are led from a number of points around the southeast. For the last nine years there has been a ride that has started in the Pelham / Helena area and this year we will do it again! This year’s ride will start in Helena at Frankie’s Market and Café. The café is located on Shelby County Highway 52 West of Helena and directly across from the Golden Rule BBQ. Frankie’s serves a great breakfast buffet beginning at 7:30 AM. Join your fellow riders for breakfast and then head up to Eldridge where we will arrive in time for lunch…that’s right, just in time to eat again…a free lunch!

The ride will depart at 8:30 AM sharp!

Our ride will lead us through some great back roads such as Mud Creek Rod to Lock 17 and Camp Oliver across the Warrior River. From there we will take AL highway 69 to Oakman and head toward Berry on AL 18. From there we will experience some roads I have never taken heading up into Eldridge. This has proven to be the exciting part of the trip in previous years. If you don’t believe it, ask Martin Benson! I try to go a different way each year to make the route more interesting…and it usually is! I have attached a Garmin .gpx file of the planned route up for those who would like to review it!

So we will arrive in Eldridge by 12 noon. Be sure to visit the ladies at the front door where you can deposit a donation in the fish bowl. Cash, checks or Wal-Mart gift cards are commonly deposited into the fishbowl and will be very welcomed! Stroll on in and get a bite of lunch. Afterward there will be a program where you can meet the kids and mingle with friends.

At this point if you have other obligations or need to head off you can do so. When we head back toward the Pelham / Helena area we usually make our way down AL 269 and take a shorter route on the return. In past years this has been preferred as the weather has been less than perfect. However, this year the weather looks great so there is no telling what the riders will come up with for a return route!

I hope you can make this ride for a great cause on a great day! If for some reason you are not able to make the ride itself, feel free to join us for breakfast. If you would like to make a donation the riders will be more than happy to take your donation and put it into the fish bowl for you. All you have to do is put it into an envelope, seal it and hand it to one of us! It is that easy!

I hope to see you for a nice warm ride up. I guarantee you will feel even warmer on the return ride...and it won't be just the temperature outside!
